@john_keim #jkmailbag Any reason to follow the Skins this year? Danny Snyder is still destroying team from the inside. What has changed?

Keim: Ah, preseason optimism. I don't blame fans for feeling this way; it's been an awful stretch the past 10 years in particular, so I get it. I won't sell fans false optimism because that doesn't do anyone any good. I try to be honest and if I were you, it would be hard not to feel the same. There have been times in the past that moves have been hailed only to see them fail. I like that when they threw darts at the board this offseason they finally hit the one that said, "hire a competent general manager." And I like the moves Scot McCloughan made this offseason and I like some of the coaching staff additions. I like the mindset of the players they've signed. I also know one offseason won't turn this program around and there are still questions about some key areas, such as quarterback and head coach. That and the fact that the Redskins have had only four winning seasons since Snyder bought the team in 1999; good organizations win. But sometimes with this stuff you just never know. If Robert Griffin III ... if the defense... All I can say is hang in there.

@RapSheet: #Redskins re-signed LB Ryan Kerrigan, giving him a 5-yr extension that pays him $11.5M per year, source said. He gets an $16M signing bonus

Worth it. Also camp starts tomorrow. Presser today at 4pm

The extension (5 yr) is worth $57.5 million, with $24.28 million guaranteed, a source said. Kerrigan also received a $16 million signing bonus.

The contract makes Kerrigan the third-highest-paid linebacker in the NFL in terms of annual salary, behind the Kansas City Chiefs' Justin Houston and Green Bay Packers' Clay Matthews.
