Hail to the Washington Commanders

Shows Kirk is only interested in Kirk. I actually can't fault Dan and his cronies if they didn't even get a counter offer. Let him go and start over.

Funny how you really don't hear anything from Cousins or his side of it. Seems like it's one side putting out the "info."

Gotta look out for yourself, the team (especially the Skins) ain't gonna do it.

The way I understand it, the deal offered by the Redskins was only guaranteed on the front end, and Cousins didn't want that. But they never even tried to counter offer apparently and that bothers me about Cousins commitment.

The Redskins may be unsure about signing QB Kirk Cousins to a long-term deal, but his numbers speak for themselves. Only Tom Brady and Matt Ryan -- two league MVPs -- have posted higher QBR totals over the past two seasons.

The deal was supposedly for 5 years. That is long term. The guaranteed money was there. It was just all up front. It was the greatest guaranteed amount in history. Cousins rejected it. Didn't even counter offer. He's putting "Kurt" first. Plain and simple. He wants his money, and what's best for the team be da**ed

I'm still not entirely sure what to make of Cousins. I've admittedly watched very little of him, but what I have seen, I don't remember anything jumping out at me. It's a pretty odd case. You don't see many 5K yard passers with his TD-INT ratio who just fly under the radar like he has. I wouldn't have really given him a second thought until this whole contract situation came up in the media. Then I looked up his stats and "DAYYUMM".

looks like Washington will be drafting a QB in the 1st round next year -- anyone you Skins fans hope to snag ?

The obvious answer is hoping that Darnold continues to shine at USC, goes pro, and the Skins take him.

Other options would be hoping Rosen at UCLA bounces back after his injury, that Francois continues to get better at FSU or maybe even Ferguson or Nick Fitzgerald. I'm not very interested in Jackson from Louisville, at least yet.

Jackson is RG3 2.0

I'm not doubting Cousins' ability, stats or any of that. I've wanted him as the long term solution before almost anybody. But he's by far the more guilty party in this contract debacle than the Skins front office for once. It's been so long since our front office didn't f things up though, they're getting the blame. This player first mentality that has magically appeared within this NBA (yes NBA) offseason baffles me. I'm all for the players (plural) getting most of the money, but Cousins is playing it out all to protect himself and make as much for him, with total disregard for the team. I can't support that.

Cousins better hope Reed finds a way to stay on the field. Pryor is good, there's hope in Doctson and Crowder is decent as the third option, but Jackson and Garçon were both greats, absolute greats. Will be interesting to see how it plays out this year for "Kurt".

It's hard to take a side really. Cousins had ALL the leverage. The amount of guaranteed money when compared to the franchise tags (which we all know were and will be used again), was about $5 million more. Can't really fault the guy for that.

If he has another year comparable to the last 2, good on him. If not, it'll work out in the Skins favor.

I don't blame football players for doing everything for them when it comes to contract. Team will throw them out in a heartbeat and short career span with long term medical bills.

I see a middle road. $53 million guaranteed. The money is there. I laugh and scoff at the notion that's leaving $5 million on the table for him. Again, according to reports with no rebuttals as of yet, the Cousins side never even countered. At some point, what is best for you, hurts the team. Quarterbacks are the most important piece of the puzzle, but you still need receivers, an O Line, running backs, and a complete defense. Get your money, then start reworking your contract year by year like Brady does to help now. Of course, at some point, the Pats are going to owe a retired Brady a lot of money, but I don't think Pats fans are going to complain about that too much.

not to mention, Cousins is becoming the leader in the locke room and of the team in general. Or at least that's where he should be progressing. He's showing teammates his concern is money and only money. Maybe it's the moderate in me, but I still say Cousins' needs to find that happy medium.

I just think he hates the organization/ownership and doesn't really care how it looks to anyone. He'll keep taking great money on the franchise tag and then bolt as soon as he can if/when they finally balk at that strategy.
