Why has Steven Pearl gotten more minutes than both of these guys in the tourney? I mean I know they are both new to the team, but obviously Goins is solid, he won the SDSU game for us. And Hall was 2-2 today and after a thunderous dunk he threw down on a fast break, what does CBP do? Sub in SP for him...

Also whats wrong with subbing in Bone, I mean he obviously showed today that hes not scared to play in the big dance by quintupling his season average of 1 ppg today.

I mean I love CBP and Im no ball coach, but to me I just dont get it, anyone care to enlighten me? It just seems to me that SP offers nothing on the offensive side of the ball except someone to pass through, and on D he is to small to guard a F and too slow to guard a G.

By the way, what has happened to McBee and Woolridge? They must be terrible in practice recently...

have you not seen how well the team plays when steven pearl is on the court? the only down side is his turnovers

Hall is playing more minutes than Pearl. He subs in for Chism and Williams. We need four post players.

Goins is a guard and so is McBee. They wouldn't play in the post where Pearl plays. Pearl is in there to play defense, rebound, and foul people. That's it. Anything else is a bonus.

Stephen Pearl's defense is better than Hall's, and you aren't losing much in rebounding either. I'm pretty sure he played more in the game today because he has a better ability to switch on the perimeter and Goins was having trouble handling the ball against Ohio's guards. The comment on Woolridge and McBee tells me you haven't been watching this team all year.

I like how aggresive he is, but when he has the ball in he's hands it scare's me even tho he has made a few good shots

And his offense. Daddy even ripped him during the game when SP thought he was Michel Jordan for a split second.

What Steven does do is play tough defense, which Kenny Hall doesn't do, so he sits and watches Steven eat up his minutes.

Obviously I have, because I love Tennesee basketball, but clearly you couldnt see that I wasnt questiong their lack of play, just commenting on it.

I agree that Halls defense isnt as polished, but IMO I think his offense is far supperior to Pearls. I guess im just frustrated that someone like Woolridge is so bad when he obviously has more tallent than SP does..

We won, shut up

Classy, and obviously I know that, but thanks for telling me what I can and cant do on a message board that is made for discussing warranted opinions

Well Steven is one of our better defenisve players on the team.

And for Woolridge and McBee, the way they have played lately they do not deserve to be on the court.

Steve Pearl has played hard the last few games. I used to shudder when I saw him subbed in the game, but now I am glad to have him in there on defense. Great defensive play, gives it his all on every play.

I still shudder when I see him making a move to score, he is gawd awful when trying to score. But he knows where to be, and he can pass the ball pretty well. He deserves more credit, and less criticism, than he gets.

I think its alright to put sp into the game if we are up enough points. When he comes in and can't even get the ball in without turning it over I cring. I wish he would play Woolridge more and see if he can't contribute.

I'm not a big Steven Pearl fan by any means but the simple matter is that Chism and Williams cant play the entire game. Swiperboy cant defend his way out of a jar and when you compare Pearl's numbers to Hall's there isn't much difference.

Pearls stat line: 15 MIN 6 PTS, 2 REB, 1 STL, 2TO, 3 Fouls

Halls stat line: 7 MIN 4 PTS, 0 REB, 0 STL, 1TO, 1 Foul

Basically the only difference is that Pearl is better defense Hall is better offense and we don't really have any other options at forward.

Pearl knows his role. He doesnt jack up threes or turn the ball over. No he wont win the game but he defends and passes very well. He is also always in the right place at the right time. He is very valuable to this team.

I would say he has his role in that he gives Brian William's a breather which he is decent at but to say he doesn't cause turnovers isn't true. I mean its easy to not have many turnovers when your entire ball handling time comes down to catching a pass up top awkwardly dribbling two feet and passing to anyone he sees. Most of his turnovers he does have come from inbound plays which is one of the few times he actually has to make a play. Like tonight when floated a pass and had it jumped for an easy bucket, or in the Kentucky game when he handed the ball to Prince.

Not for long. We have much needed players on the way. :)

Again, he is a ROLE PLAYER!

Honestly next year is going to be more of the same since we are losing Chism, and even though I think Harris is going to be great he won't instantly come in and play the same number of minutes as Wayne.

If anything next year we are probably going to see even more of Steven. I'll even go as far as to say that Steven will start a couple games next year cause i doubt Williams or Harris won't be injured for at least one game.

Although if we somehow grab Abraham, which I doubt we will do but one can hope, this entire post is irrelevant

You're leaving out the development of Hall though. Don't forget he is a freshman. I expect him and Harris together to at least account for Wayne's minutes. I suspect we'll start the season with SP playing about the same as he does now, but it'll dwindle as we get into conference play

Agreed. He catches hell, but the kid holds up. And you know what your gonna get from him. A couple engaged fouls, maybe a charge, a few rebounds, maybe a steal, and most importantly, a rest for chism/williams and heart/effort.

I promised I wasn't going to get involved in this junk again, but...

a) point one is wrong. Pearl has played 30 minutes in the tourney to Hall's 15. Since the second Florida game Pearl has played 144 minutes to Hall's 86.

b) Pearl doesn't rebound. 2 is a big game for him. 4 is his season high. Kenny Hall went into double figures twice. Rebounds per 40 minutes: Pearl 4.7, Hall 9.7.

I admit that I don't cringe quite as badly as I used to when Steven comes in, now that his dad has stoked his confidence to maximum, but he still does some absolutely bone-headed things. Tonight there was the pass into back-court to set up an Ohio layup and foul (almost looked like he MEANT to lead the guy to the bucket); which was much worse than the shot off the bottom of the rim that his dad reamed him for.

(coach) Pearl does indeed move in mysterious ways.

Steven Pearl really reminds me a lot of Jonathan Crompton in that people always dog him and he proves em wrong every time (granted he's not perfect, and he makes more mistakes than "good" players do, but he's still a valuable contributor to this team).

I totally agree. Hall is going to be a beast. I already want a number twenty jersey. Plus with the work ethic of Harris, I dont think it will take long for him to catch on.
