Halzle Promoted to OC

I thought it was remarkable that he called at least six straight pass plays in the first two possessions with no run support. I guess it means he has a lot of confidence in Joe and the line, however, there was a sack in there.

Heupel likes to promote from within, which I think is a good way to build a culture. It worked well with the WR coach. Heupel will be involved in the offense, so this transition should be pretty smooth.

I'm more interested to who the TE coach will be. Hopefully a top tier recruiter and someone who can bring a new dimension to the offense. As important as it is to promote from within and reward people who are working hard, you have to stay innovative in this sport
He knows what he is getting when he promotes from within for key vacancies. Lest likely to make a mistake when do that.

Wow. Considering all the options we had, this is a disappointing hire.

(disappointing for the other program in the SEC that play us)
Huh? He was an integral part in the offense that led the nation in yards and scoring. I’m Pretty sure this is not the time to go in a new direction.

He was our initial recruiter on Nico. Check. And he coached Hooker and Milton to be vastly improved vs when they arrived. Check.

But less opportunities for growth. Golesh wasn't s internal promotion when he hired him at UCF.
I think Halzel’s growth has been very good. The offense will not miss a beat with him as OC assuming we have similar talent on offense. His knowledge of Heupel’s offense is the best available and is no surprise at all.

I was hoping for external, but I am not the coach and don't know who is the right fit. In Saban slayer I trust.

Why? Why teach an external guy the offense when there's a guy down the hall that's been engrained for 12 years? This is CJH's offense and he's going to be protective of his intellectual property. As he should be.

OC hire says a lot to me about Heup and the culture he’s building but even more so about the unique O he’s building here.

I can’t name a single outsider who could come in take the OC position and be sympatico with our HC without taking at least half a step back or worse confusing the direction.

Polar opposite move from Jimbo Fisher’s establishment OC hire at A&M. Polar opposite HC’s with polar opposite team building and coaching philosophies.

Thank God!!

Great move on Heupels part. Halze had been with him for years and knows the system inside and out. Another big benefit if this is that the team is very familiar with Halze and I would assume they respect and trust him.

Nice. On the 247 podcast the other day they mentioned we would need to replace our te coach. This led me to conclude that those in the know have known for awhile that this was the move. That being said, can anyone see any reason why we waited to make the announcement?
He signed his new contract in December. They didn't want any distractions during bowl prep

Only because Joe held the ball too long
