Has anyone heard them or does everyone here dislike III? Ones a country album, ones a cajun/psychedelic type album. Ones a doom metal album and ones a speedmetal type album. I like them all and was lucky enough to see him live a few weeks ago. He sounded great. Anybody got anything to say bout it?

Only heard the country album but, I'm sorry, it's pathetic. I like some of the things he's done in the past but this one just seems like he completely mailed it in.

I heard him sing a Johnny Cash cover song called "cocaine blues" and I really don't like his voice.

Yikes, posted without comprehending the content of your post. I'm not familiar with III at all. Is he like the Jr. personality and otherwise? Obviously, he isn't music-wise.

Id say music wise hes nothing like Hank Jr. He just released 2 metal albums. He could have made way more money releasing more music like his Dad, but he seems to like releasing the kind of music he wants more than releasing what he thinks could sell. Love him or hate him, he plays what he wants.

Especially with the new label he released these albums on. You can tell theres less label influence on these new albums than on his previous releases.

I'll have to go read a bit about him. The music type interest me. I saw the Buckethead avy and thought, WTH you doin' listening to Jr.? I'll check III out later. Thanks.

I again preface it by saying I've only heard the country album so far but this is a quote from a review I read that sums up pretty much how I felt better than I could:

I was going to launch into a huge rant about Ghost To A Ghost after hearing it for the first time. I was, honestly, angry that Hank would give us this pile. After all the talk, all the speculation of him holding songs for the post Curb era what do we get right out of the box? More of the same. More runninย’ and drugginย’ and outlawinย’ cliche. More juvenile lyrics. More laziness and I was ready to rail against it with all the bile and typographical acridity I could muster. Then, I thought, whatย’s the point? Iย’d put more effort into said rant than Hank did in the album I was railing against. Furthermore, at this point, I feel like Iย’d just be pissed cause I want something from III that heย’s just not capable of giving me. Another Straight To Hell. Another great country album. At this point, I am resigned to just accepting that, as Hanksย’s greater body of work suggests, Straight To Hell was just a flash in the pan. And itย’s a damned shame.

I have seen him with assjack and it was a great show. I have no heard the new stuff yet but the reviews are not making me want to do so. I probably will pick it up used or something in the future.

edit: One of the best shows I ever attended was Primus with Buckethead in ATL

Big III fan, but haven't heard the new albums yet... looking forward to it.

Hellbound Glory and Deer Tick have new albums (already or soon)... like both those bands too.

Sometimes he is very good, sometimes not so much.

If he is living his life like the songs he is writing, there aint much time left on Earth for III.

The naysayers probably listened to it once and hated it. Some of the albums have psychedelic noises on some parts and I could see how they could turn off listeners who aren't trippin.

Hank III lives fast and hard. So you're probably right.

I just saw Buckethead last weekend. I was so messed up the ceiling melted onto the stage, but it was awesome.
