It's always been okay to say it there champ. I say Happy Holidays because there are multiple holidays happening right now and I say Merry Christmas because I celebrate Christmas.

So, I guess there must have been some segment of the population, who in the midst of Christmas sales, Christmas specials, Christmas songs, and Christmas saturation from November on, cowered in fear; terrified to say "Merry Christmas" on the chance that some mysterious boogie man would jump out from under their beds (or Christmas trees).
