What about the precedent set with Bruce Pearl....
As much as I hated Captain America (Harbaugh's nickname when he quarter-backed the Colts in mid 90s), the UM violation was a Level II violation. Bruce's violations were much more serious and as noted he was a repeat offender. Worst of all, Bruce lied to the Chancellor and the rest was history, as it should have been.
The looming suspension is tied to an NCAA recruiting investigation into Michigan in which Harbaugh faces a Level I violation, the most serious kind in the NCAA's purview, for not cooperating with NCAA enforcement.

But he wasn’t. He was blacklisted by opposing coaches when he worked for Tom Davis at Iowa for recording a call with Deon Thomas that showed Illinois was paying him. The bbq was the first reported issue with the NCAA. Then Hamilton and company used the bump with a recruit to cut him loose.Pearl was a repeat offender. That contributed to it
Also it should be pretty obvious that the NCAA has a lot less power now than it did in 2011
Will be interesting to see how the media talking heads who blasted Tennessee for not going through with the supposed greatest football coaching hire of all time in Schiano and not getting a post season ban despite firing everyone in the former staff square away Hairball getting to only sit out 4 cupcake games with one being against the same great Schiano and his perennial 4 win Rutgers team.
That's because Tennessee just rolls over for the ncaa like an old toothless dog. We will always get the large end of the stick because our admin. has no spine.
