Harbaugh suspended for lying to NCAA

Will be interesting to see how the media talking heads who blasted Tennessee for not going through with the supposed greatest football coaching hire of all time in Schiano and not getting a post season ban despite firing everyone in the former staff square away Hairball getting to only sit out 4 cupcake games with one being against the same great Schiano and his perennial 4 win Rutgers team.
Probably will blame the precedent Tennessee set and call for more penalties against us.
I think I see the problem...

Bruce lied about a Level 2 just like Harbaugh. Bruce was black-balled but technically had no NCAA violations attached to himself for Deon Thomas so I don't know how he was a "repeat offender" (Nevermind, see edit below)

Lying to the Chancellor is a school issue and they did what they saw fit.. I'm not blaming the school for firing him but a comparison of what he did to NCAA vs what Harbaugh did to NCAA is very similar. The NCAA punishments werent.

Yes, the NCAA is weaker now and they only want to punish those who do the crimes, except when it comes to Michigan football...

Edit - I remember Jordan Adams bump that happened after the original suspension announcement. I'm guessing that minor, repeat violation may have caused the increase in show cause by a year....
There was a lot of shady Pearl stuff going on that wasn’t public info. UT knew it was just a matter of time before he got them in serious trouble, so I think that’s why they took that opportunity to cut bait.

The only thing that should matter is does this help us get Bennett Warren. Anything else I don't care about.

Pearl lies and gets a 3 year suspension

Harbaugh lies and misses home games against East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green, and Rutgers...
I agree, but NCAA literally fighting for relevance today and knows if they put UT or Mich on too many penalties they could be non existent more sooner than later.

I love the way these cry babies try to trash Tennessee without a shred of reality. The staff and players at Tennessee were not part of the violations. There was much said about punishing innocent players for past transgressions of others. Shout out to Tennessee AG for a nice letter to that point as well. Harbaugh's situation is entirely different. He IS the sitting coach, so of course any sanction must involve him directly.

yeah its some bs.

"Slap on the wrist" TN got: The Completely Unfair Punishment of Harbaugh consists of:
1. Coach got a 6 year show clause, and a 1 year suspension 1. 4 game suspension
2. School had 11 wins removed
3. School had to pay an 8 million dollar fine.
4. School had to pay some other fine for the bowl game with the players in question
5. Lost 28 scholarships
6. 5 year probation
7. Recruiting officials visits reduced
8. Unofficial visits reduced
9. contact with recruits reduced
10. reduction in evaluation days
11. DC got a 2 year show clause
12. Recruiting director got a 5 year show clause
13. assistant to the recruiting director got a 10 year show clause.
14. 3 other coaches got at least a 3 year show clause
15. a student assistant got a 3 year show clause.

and that's after we fired everybody responsible, AND worked with the NCAA.

I really want this writer to answer this question.
Since Harbaugh got suspended, do they think the NCAA should suspend Heupel for what Pruitt did?
Naw, but a bowl ban would be in order. The institution hired the good fer nuthin. It appears by their reaction the current staff expected as much.

A bowl ban would have violated the new NCAA policy of not penalizing players not involved. UT could have defeated that in court. My only fault with UT is not documenting cheating from Pruitt going on at other SEC programs.

So.......Harbaugh is planning an NFL return next season I would take it?

Do a slick Pete and run outta run outta town before the sanctions hit. I only hope that the chain of events following that doesn't hit UT this time.

So they offered 4 game and NCAA rejected so they decide to self impose a 3 game on him?

My guess is the NCAA wants 6 and they are going to do 3 this year against cupcakes and then the first 3 next year.

Brilliant move if that’s the case.

I hope they reject it for the obvious reasons.

It’s a token gesture with the knowledge that the NCAA won’t back down and accept Harbaugh sitting out some scheduled cupcakes. No way Michigan skates without losing some combination of scholarships and/or recruiting visits. Time for their preening fanbase to sweat out the unknown and have rival coaches negative recruit the final verdict. 😎
