Harrison Jr? Hyatt? Who is the best WR in the country? We know

Let me preface this by saying Harrison is one heck of a good WR. Great hands, explosive and a great route runner. I see guys like Joel Klatt and some others talk about he is the best WR hands down. Really? Let’s see.

Harrison JRs stats through 8:

48 catches for 783 yards 10 TDs with a 16.6 average. It should be noted OSU has played a super weak schedule. Now let’s see Hyatts stats.

Hyatt stats through 8:

45 catches 907 yards 14 TDs with a 20.2 average. It should be noted that we have played a much, much more difficult schedule.

While Harrison is really good, currently Jalin Hyatt is the best WR in the nation.

Harrison is 2nd on his team in receiving.

I'm curious. How is he more versatile?
I'm no Mel Kiper but I see Harrison Jr as being more physical and better against tight coverage. He makes a lot of tough catches on 3rd down to move the chains with with guys hanging all over him. He's also a threat in the red zone on corner routes or crossing routes in the back of end zone... the kind of plays that tend to result in jump balls, something I don't recall seeing much of from Hyatt (not say he "can't" just saying I don't recall seeing it). Basically when you watch Harrison Jr highlights you see plays from all over the field on all kinds of routes and in all kinds of situations whereas with Hyatt you're usually "just" seeing him torch defenders or take advantage of a busted coverage.

I don't really think it's fair to say either player is "better". They are just different and each is great in their own way, just like Randy Moss and Jerry Rice were different.
I wouldn't even say Hyatt is "better" than Bru McCoy.... they are different guys who do different things.

Fair enough. I don't think Hyatt has been asked to do some of those things, but he has been pretty effective in screens, and crossing routes over the middle as well as over the top. He seems like he has put on some bulk and has good hands so I would be interested to see how he would fare in more physical situations. He just hasn't been asked to at this point.

Jump balls, though, may be a bridge too far....

I agree and I hope my comments didn’t come across as a knock on Hyatt. He’s amazing and our offense wouldn’t be the same without him. I can’t think of a faster player in the country

Hyatt will be on a NFL roster. Every team needs one receiver that can take the top off. Big Titans fan as well and the Titans never have had that receiver.

But they can lie. The comparison by the OP is skewed. Now, if he had done this for the two men's teams playing the same opponent, it would have been more accurate. Just to be the devil's advocate: There are lies, damn lies, and then there's statistics. I still think Hyatt is the best WR just the same.

No it’s not skewed. The only thing we have in college football to judge greatness by is numbers and strength of schedule. And both of those are in Hyatt’s favor. By using your logic there is no way to quantify who could be the best player at any position. Stats don’t lie.

Very hard to compare these 2. The combination of Hyatt's speed and our scheme has been a lethal combination. Seems like he's got a minimum of 5 yards of separation on every TD catch. And you can't coach speed. It doesn't mean Hyatt is just a "system WR", but Golesh/Heupel are coaching circles around our opponents right now.

Harrison Jr. is currently a more attractive WR as a prospect. He's bigger, more physical, and makes some spectacular contested catches with the defender all over him. It's not a knock on Hyatt, we just haven't seen him have to do that.
Glad I read your post so I didn't repeat it... my exact thoughts, well said

Hyatt 6ft 185lb 4.3 40 time
Harrison Jr. 6'4" 205lb 4.44 40 time
Hyatt has the speed advantage and better college numbers, but other than that everything else belongs to Harrison jr..
Including.. height, weight, hands, and route running, and only milliseconds slower

Facts are Harrison Jr is a beast but Hyatt is a beast right now and that's all that really matters. They'll both play in the NFL.

Hyatt reminds me of a Robbie Anderson, while Harrison reminds me of a Demaryius Thomas or an Antonio brown with size...

Sorry to be that guy but it is what it is 🍊🍊🍊

Harrison Sr was slower and smaller than Hyatt, and his results were better than both because of his "It" factor. Harrison has had entire lifetime of first class coaching, arguably Hyatt has had 2. I agree both are beasts and that HArrison has more of the measurables.......but as most military pilots will say - Take speed and mobility every time

Actually from what I can tell Sr and Hyatt are basically the same size. There's no question JH is the faster of the two...and faster than most for that matter.

So you're choosing Harrison Jr then.. got it

Hyatt is better. He is putting up crazy numbers. Just odd he is so open at times. Him and Hooker are definitely dialed in. You can tell all the offseason work these guys did.
Hyatt has a better play caller that knows how to scheme him open.

Hyatt is the best receiver in college football this year.

If I were an NFL GM and both were in the draft I would take Harrison JR.

As a college football fan Hyatt is a better receiver.

It sure doesn't hurt that MHJ comes from one of the greatest bloodlines in NFL history and his son's technique and route running are unmatchable. If you have watched him he catches everything and drops nothing ( 0 drops). Joel Klatt said he will be the best receiver in the NFL in a few years.
