Hart & UT after 3 years...

Still not sure about the hire itself either. We were listed by many as being the most desirable job available and we certainly paid more than anyone save Arkansas, but I think you'd have to conclude at this point that Malzahn was the better hire.

Malzahn has done great but so many people seem to forget that he was Auburn's OC for their National Championship and recruited many of the players for his offense on that team since he was gone all of a year. So he stepped into a perfect situation to succeed right away. Not taking away anything from him as a coach he just had a lot easier road to sled.

It's not football but you also have to consider the men's head BB coach recent hire when looking at Hart's legacy. The recently exiled coach was a bad hire (Hart or Hamilton?) and I'm unsure of our current new coach we hired. Seems like the SEC will be a big jump for him.

No one has forgotten, because someone here brings it up immediately anytime his hire is compared with Butch's. "Perfect situation" or no, he took over a 3-9 team, brought in a juco QB, beat Alabama, won the SEC, and played for the national championship. That's more impressive than anything Butch has ever done.

In regards to a previous post about Malzahn:

Yes, Malzahn looks like the best hire at the moment. However, he walked into a program one year removed since he was the OC and pretty much everyone on that offense was his players. Chizik was just a complete idiot. Malzahn was the mastermind and kept Chizik that job for a while. Malzahn can flat out coach and since he walked into a situation in which the roster was basically all of his recruits, he was able to turn them around immediately. CBJ is dealing with a total rebuild. Same with Bielema.

So, by this logic, if Chizik is an idiot, then I guess we give the credit for the previous National Championship (and the rebuild which proceeded it) to Malzahn too, right? Makes him look even more impressive.

Chizik is known for being a defensive coach. Auburn never had an impressive defense under his tenure. But yes, I believe Chizik's tenure was all Malzahn. Malzahn made him look good.
