who the hell knows what LG was referring to, but you mentioned "first sentences" and the first sentence in the CNN article you linked to seemed a bit awkward at first.

When I mentioned 'first sentence,' I was just making fun of myself...I completely missed LGs point that the charges had been dropped when I posted that link in response to his comments.

I could be wrong but I think he was talking about the fact you said maybe the charges will be dropped and the link title underneath says the charge had been dropped.

Whats with the attacks on you today TT?

Eh....these weren't attacks. As for the one that might be considered an attack, I was having some fun with it until I realized what I was engaging in was the intellectual equivalent of Norwegian fishermen clubbing baby seals.

Big problem with that over there? :p

I thought it was weird until I realized there were two similar tenacious D monikers on this board.

I don't think so. I half-way read LGs post to say that this guy was going to have a hard time winning this case, which isn't what he said at all, of course. So, I posted that link saying...well, he could have a hard time...OR....they could just drop the charges (posting a link showing they had dropped the charges). I totally missed the fact that LG had already said the charges were being dropped and that what his post was really about was trying to win a case where he sues the police for the arrest.

I see.

I think that they finally outlawed clubbing baby seals...but it used to be quite popular! I also learned in a museum here that the hunters devised a trap that had a gun in it...the polar bears would come up to eat the seal meat in the trap and end up triggering a mechanism that caused them to shoot themselves. Come to think of it, that would have also been a valid comparison.

Yeah..I used to be confused by the Tenacious monikers a while back too...I used to think man this guy is funny, and then a few hours later, man this guy is annoying. I finally realized they were two different people. I usually find TenaciousD's stuff to be pretty good....

You got it -- that's what I was teasing you about.

And my other point then was , yes, the charges are dropped. And I would have expected them to be. I mean, obviously he did not rob his own house. Any sort of verbal resistance type of charge, under the circumstances, would have been overkill and just fueled the criticism.

But now that the guy has claimed racism and had some of these yahoos like Sharpton and others make statements, and now that it has come out that the guy was difficult and claiming race right off the bat -- without knowing the whole story -- I just would not be surprised if he feels cornered and that he will have to go further to try to justify hsi leaping to the conclusion he did at the scene.

I will commend his attorney, however, who is being somewhat restrained in his commentary and focusing on getting the charges dropped. He did his job without making it a circus, at least on his own end. Good lawyers don't hype, they are a steady drumb beat.

Using "good" and "lawyers" in the same sentence may or may not be poor grammar, but sure is distasteful.

If I was the cop I would've just told the guy "sorry about that. Just don't expect me to respond to any future burglary calls at this residence. Don't want any further racial misunderstandings"...

To understand it you would have to watch the terrible movie 'Zoolander', I wouldn't advise you watch it. It is has some funny moments but overall it was a dud.

There are some jokes that I will just have to live with not knowing the back story to :)

essentially what these people are arguing is that if the police suspect a break in and go to a house and if the person inside is black they should just take their word for it that they own the home. i also love how they mention that the person who reported it was white. ridiculous. if the waspiest man on earth is breaking into my neighbors house i'm calling the police.

That piece was very disturbing. The people that commented on the professor's arrest are jumping to every bit as much of a conclusion that they claim the white officer did. The sad part is police officers are trained to be skeptical, you can't just take someones word for it they live there in this case. The police officers version of events seem every bit as reasonable, probably even more reasonable given the circumstances.

I wonder if this issue would be getting as much attention had it not happened to a Harvard professor.

Say it happened at Hillsdale College and the professor was black, but conservative, and rather than invoke Obama's name, he mentions Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, or Ken Blackwell.

btw, it's a rhetorical question.
