This actually happened to one of my friends. He is now a registered sex offender for having sex with his, at the time, girlfriend of over a year. They broke up when he left for college, she got mad and pissy, reported it, and bam. Sad part is, he could've done jail time for up to 2.5 years had he not taken a plea deal. Terrible crap.

It really is. The saddest part is, the way sex laws with miners work, she could've brought it up until she was 24 and it still been legal. She actually waited nearly a year before turning him in.

And to top it off, she followed it up by trying to hit on me during the trial :crazy:

I agree but it he only spend about six months. The idiot with full intent killed a historical landmark. In Germany they calculate this type of fine by the age or size of the tree. That would seem appropriate to me in this case.

To me this should have been a civil case. Not criminal. I agree with another poster though. Sentencing was ridiculus. I could see a hefty fine and lots of community service.

Tree huggers are gleeful after the news. Someone went to jail (finally) for abusing the poor tree.
