I'm thinking about flying out Tuesday for 4-5 days and enjoying some snow and skiing for the first time in my life.
Never been to Aspen, but lived in Denver for a few years. If you're not locked into going to Aspen, I'd recommend Steamboat. It's by far my favorite mountain in Colorado. Great town, a little less crowded than the bigger mountains (Vail/Breck/Beaver Creek).
No matter where you end up, you picked a great state to go for your first time!
My only advice is not to overdo it. You'll be super tired at the end of each day. If you're there for 4-5 days, there's no need to ski 14 hour days.
Also, find a hot tub.
