Has reality finally set in on Duke?

If Dook didn't suck we wouldn't be #2......

That would be true....don't get me wrong, I am very excited for Tenn basketball and hope this is the year for us, but I'm just curious how long their run will last as well, they are very similar to duke, and if their shots don't hit, what will happen, can they still manage to win or will they wear out?

We'll get a good idea Saturday...

either Duke or Tennessee could beat Memphis if they have everything working. The question is can either of these teams hold up through the tourney knowing they must have good nights from beyond the arc to have a chance.

We don't shoot quite as many perimeter jumpers as Duke does. I also think Tennessee gets more inside production with Chism, Smith, and sometimes Crews. Moreover, what happened to Duke's transition defense? It's been virtually nonexistant the last three games.

If I'm a Duke fan, I'd be worried about our recent defensive inadequacies more than anything else.

Duke has fired up 65 three pointers the past two games. They have hit 23 of them. Everything revolves around Duke's perimeter game. Find another way to score or consistently hit the 3 and Duke will be fine in all areas. It is without question the biggest stumbling block of this team. That and staying out of foul trouble.

I slightly disagree. Singler and Thomas will have to patch up your interior defense at some point. There's no hope for Zoubek.

And Memphis could beat both of those teams if they have everything working. The question was can we win if the shots aren't falling and I still maintain we'll get an idea Saturday because Memphis willl pressure the 3 point line.

Tell us something we don't know. :p We said right before his return we didn't care for him. And to be honest, I wish he was back on the bench, since his return Duke has looked awful.

Hey, if he wants to go on another route, let him. :p But I somewhat agree with you, I can't necessarily say we will find out on Saturday. Even if it is a win or a loss, I don't think that will be answered, because we almost lost to LSU because shots weren't falling, and that shouldn't have happened against LSU. I am more curious to see if they can handle it when it comes to games closer together, because they didn't against Kentucky after a close stretch of games, with the gas running out. With the SEC tourney, I think that will help answer the question better.

Leave to windy to actually have a legit response. UT has proven a couple of times already they can't beat a major team if the shots aren't falling. UT can not beat Memphis with an off night. Likewise getting past the sweet sixteen is impossible for UT with an average night.

Mike, this is just for you:

After much thought, I've decided asking for Cherokee Parks might be a little greedy. Instead, I'm hoping we can somehow reinstate Tamon Domzalski for the tourney run.
Nicely played, remember the days of Greg Newton, Joey Beard, Ricky Price and Chris Burgess, that was supposed to be the stud group. underline "suppose".....Tamon was productive but foul prone as heck...

and injury prone as i recall. Joey Beard, there's a name I had even forgotten. Almost went with Burgess (in his brief stay) or Newton, but it seems like they got more PT than Domzalski.

Didnt Newton get kicked off the team for cheating on a CSCI test? Beard did absolutely nothing at Duke, believe he transferred to Boston University and was playing ball in Italy.

Beard did transfer to Boston, but I never heard of him doing anything. I don't recall Newton cheating, I thought he was even a captain his senior year.

he was suspended in 95, but not kicked off the team. and he was the captain his senior year. Tim Duncan made him look like a clown though.

A couple more names to pull out of the archives from that era would be Eric Meek, Carmen Wallace, Roshown McLeod, Kenny Blakeney, Brian Davis, Clay Buckley and big Danny Ferry.

I do hate that you brought up Ricky Price. I'm still waiting on him to explode onto the national scene. I never did give up on him to be a big star.

Isn't Blakeney an assistant somewhere? You could have given me 3 days to name as many former Duke players as I could and I wouldn't have remembered Buckley.

lol, thats probably a good thing. I think Buckley was a Team Captain in 91 or 90 with Greg Koubek, one of those years...pretty sure it was 91.

As many of you know I am a Duke fan however, I am in no way a homer and have said since day one that they are not a top tier team. Getting blitzed by Miami early on proves just that.

Maybe they can grit it out, but its not looking good right now.

No 3pt = No win for Duke

no 3pter= no win for TN
