I'd still like to see a reverse jet to Bru and let him get up a full head of steam. Just sayin.2988 yards and 32 TDs .. I will take that 'predictable' any day, all day .
We already have misdirection. We run a few variations of counter. We have plays where guards pull the opposite of where the play is going too.I sometimes wonder how much some misdirection and sweep action would enhance our offense. I think an occasional jet sweep would be a nice wrinkle - to keep the defense guessing and on their toes a bit. Seems like our run game is very predictable..
Another play we haven’t seen in a while (maybe not a single time this season?) is a QB option run. I’m guessing Nico isn’t comfortable with it , because you’d have to think there’d be big play potential with Sampson getting using his speed on the pitch.
I agree with you on jet sweeps and mis-directions. They had a lot of those in 2022 .. may be it was Golesh or having a QB who could run it better at that time .. I was just reacting to your part about run game being predictable amid most prolific year we are havingI'd still like to see a reverse jet to Bru and let him get up a full head of steam. Just sayin.
Seriously, I think with some horizontal misdirection sprinkled in, those stats would be even better. And it's probably more optics than anything else - i.e. "wait, we're running it straight up the middle again"?
But I totally get that there are various nuances to blocking schemes etc. and it's not nearly that simple. (believe me I am not an X/Os guru).
I also think some of it has to do w/ offensive philosophy of the super wide splits and trying to stretch the D across the field. The whole point of extending the defense and making them commit numbers in certain areas of the field is that you want to exploit vulnerability.. In that line of thinking, if you have a light box due to more defenders being committed toward the sideline, why would you run outside right into the teeth of that formation? Of course if you have the right numbers in the box, you want to run straight up the middle into that space and get N/S asap.
There is no need to toss sweep if u can get 5ypc running between the tackles. It also kinda negates having the wide splits, which we do for the sole purpose of making the box light. I'm not going to get multiple defenders lined up outside the numbers only to toss sweep the ball right at them. That quick screen outside is our toss sweep, but with better blocking angles.I haven’t seen one, but if you have? What game was it in? Can we add it to the offense if we haven’t done it yet? How effective would it be?
This is exactly how Michigan won a Natty last year. Misdirection and execution. Confuse the defense or at least get to hesitate just a bit so the RB gets past the 2nd level.I'd still like to see a reverse jet to Bru and let him get up a full head of steam. Just sayin.
