In the history of the modern era of college football, (say as far back as when Neyland was first hired as UT head coach) has UT every been down this bad? Have they ever had a team with a defense like this? I've followed this team since the year before Dickey came to UT. I can't think of any. This team is good enough offensively, but you don't win many games without a defense.

I honestly think our team as a whole is very talented but the coaching is what makes the team look so bad. So It's hard to say that team is down that much right now talent wise. All we need is a good sound coach and we would be in upper eshelon of college ranks. I 100% believe that...

No, this the worst. Dooley lost this game. This season eclipse' anything from the Fulmer era or any era.

There has been no improvement the last three years. Hell, our best season was Dooleys first.

No, it hasn't. We've never gone 3 straight years without a winning season. Dooley is easily the worst coach we've ever had.

I've seen some bad years and some of the games I'd like to forget...Rutgers, Memphis State, Vandy but honestly...this year ranks up here

As a team, it was this bad in the mid-50's. Bowden Wyatt was a bad coach. Jim McDonald was the last horrid coach and he lasted a year. It is a historic low point.

We're one loss away from posting our 3rd consecutive losing season. Would be the first time in UT history that's happened. If we do so, that would mean 4 of the last 5 years have been losing seasons, with the only exception being a mediocre 7-6 in which we lost our bowl game.

Worst run we've had in my lifetime, that's for damn sure. I wasn't around for the early Majors years (which still never yielded 3 straight losing seasons).

75~79 was no picnic but this bottom as bottom gets.

What makes it worse is the fact that the schedule was essentially set up to where we only had to win a couple of actual games to have a winning season.
Akron, GA State, Troy=lay-ups. Vandy and Kentucky=cupcakes
So if you win ONE game against a decent team, you're bowl eligible. And that is very much in doubt at this point

The only think I can really compare this to since I have been following Tennessee Football would be 1988 but Majors fixed that and we become the Vols we know from '89 to 2005.

So yes, this is the most pathetic season Tennessee has has in my opinion ever. No conference wins and the stats on the defense should make tham all (coaches and players) ashamed.

This is as bad as I can ever remember and I was at the Wyoming game as well. The bad part is that as I was walking out of the stadium today I wasn't even mad. I actually EXPECTED us to do something to lose when we were up 28-14 in the second half. If something isn't done pretty soon, the fan base will become indifferent..and they may not get 50,000 at Kentucky game.

Looking back YEARS ago:
1906: 1-6-2
1909: 1-6-2
1910: 3-5
I know that you said only going back to Neyland, but you have to go past those years to see how bad it was, of course Neyland was hired with sole purpose of beating Vandy.

not in the 45yrs I've been following the Vols....sad.. I'm having a hard time convincing myself we'll see anything different in the next 2-3 years...it is what it is.. sadly
God we need something to cheer about....anything

Early 60's were the worst I remember, and barely remember them. But we stunk it up then transitioning from the single wing to the I. This is as bad or worse.

it was bad when John Majors first came back- it took him a few years to restore our placed in the top 15 every year. There was a dry spell during the early 60s that I remember. But , it seems, perception -wise, this is the worst it has ever been. At least, we went down trying back then- we were just out-manned. Dooley plays not to lose and that is why he ALWAYS loses. It make me sick- what a coward he is. Take the 5 Mill ( that u dont deserve) and go back at Atlanta.
