Min Kao, CEO of Pepsi America, CEO of McCormick Foods, Chairman of the Board of Bank of America, there are plenty of sources of funds

Neither provide direct profits. It's all the extras that come with both these investments that they enjoy. UT has provided plenty of indirect profit to the haslems and has allowed them to do a venture like buying the browns. Both will continue to whether or not the teams are doing well.

The eventual sale of the browns profit is the only difference between the 2.

I was talking more of the NFL revenue share he will get as a team owner. Also I highly doubt that the revenue from all of the games (tickets, ads, parking, concessions, etc) just go directly to player and administrator salaries.

Does it bother some of you that you can't spell his name right? His brother is your governor if you live in TN. Invest 5 seconds of your memory into it considering what they are doing for your school and the state.

Not to mention a lot of them don't know the difference between Jimmy and Jim.

Is anyone else here concerned with Jim Haslam's new toy -The Cleveland Browns?

I know how frustrated and apathetic we,the fan base, are. Just wonder if the Haslam's after donating millions to the program, have had enough and will now devote all their efforts and money to The Cleveland Browns.

Here's a recent business article about him becoming the new owner.
Cleveland Browns new owner Jimmy Haslam is all business about winning | cleveland.com

Besides him and Thunder Thornton, who is the next biggest donor? Isn't the CEO of Dishnetwork a UT alum? Anybody else think the Haslams will become less invested in the Vols?

Stokley is a pretty big giver.

People with that amount of money/income need to invest and spend money elsewhere. Right-off was probably not the best word to use there... They spend or they lose...

You're correct. "Right-off" was not the best word to use there.

Sorry. :)

LMAO... obviously didn't catch that.

Haha...You're good. You sounded like you knew what you're talking about, though, so it just seemed a little ironic.

Not normally the grammar or spelling police, but that was pretty funny. Thanks for the slip.

When all that went down the great Ham was spending lots on renovations, and new facilities(over 100 mil right?). Money has never been an issue at UT. I don't see it being a problem anytime soon.:hi:

Donations made to a charity or school are a tax write off however many things dictate how much money is donated to different things such as Tennessee.

The law only allows a certain amount to be donated to specific things and after that amount is reached it's no longer a tax write off.

Most people don't understand that you either use your tax writeoffs and make donations to whatever things you want to choose or the government gets more of your money.

Most wealthy people prefer to make their own decisions about where their hard earned money goes plus the extra advantages of the positive PRESS they get from each of their donations to different things plus it gains them insider, special access to other things.

There are limits to what each person or business can donate so the well does have a bottom no matter how much money they have.

All big money boosters do make decisions based on current political and economic factors and, like it or not, barak oDUMBa getting re-elected is a very bad thing for our economy, businesses, peoples disposable incomes and how much money people will donate over the next 4 years because some things are now guaranteed including business and personal taxes going up and the oDUMBa healthcare forcing medical costs and insurance costs way up so it's easy to expect that donations to Tennessee will go down rather than up since big money boosters will likely have less money to play around with.

Buying the Cleveland Browns is a business investment which is much different than a donation to a charity or to UT so it's handled differently as far as the tax write off situation is concerned and many times very wealthy people simply must invest in some type of business or else they'll just lose more money to sky high taxes which is totally wasted in many cases.

It's also known that barak oDUMBa plans to restructure our tax program so that the wealthy and businesses will have lots less things that can be used as tax writeoffs and that alone will force our big money boosters to restructure their donations to different things and could sewriously limit their donations to any charity or to our football program unfortunately.

Right now things are even worse because the wealthy and businesses can only speculate or guess how things are going to end up with the new coming tax laws so they may be even more conservative on their donations to UT or anything else.

Tough times force tough decisions so we may not like what happens with our football program and the coaching situation.

Sadly, the decisions made in the near future can hurt us badly and set us back for many years to come simply based on how our boosters view the economy and new tax laws that are coming and will hit them hardest of all.

We can only pray and hope for the best but do NOT overexpect like most people here did this summer when predicting the number of wins we'd get this season.

When you badly overexpect most of the time you'll be badly hurt when your expectations fall short.

This.

Please take that crap somewhere else. If I want to listen to crap like that I'll go read comments on fox news articles. And I'd rather set myself on fire rather than read anything from fox news.

WOW, VN is like my late grandmother...If there was nothing viable to complain about, she'd just make up something to complain about.

Yeah well, wait till you get to her age--then see how YOU do it---with some young whipper-snapper rolling his/ her eyes at your every move. Goes around/ comes around----if you're lucky.
