I think we can all agree that one of the biggest issues facing us today is the prevalence of hat crimes. It's about time we started a thread to better illustrate the scope of the problem.

Man, 19, accused of assaulting 81-year-old over MAGA hat

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. โ€” Authorities say a young man at a New Jersey supermarket assaulted an 81-year-old who was wearing a โ€œMake America Great Againโ€ hat.
Somerset County prosecutors have charged 19-year-old Ryan Salvagno with assault and harassment.

And that would be another example of hat crime rationalization that is the precursor to violence against hats and wearers. That my friend would be an example of a hatist, a racist but against hats and wearers of hats. Hatism is alive and well in America in 2019.

It would have been fun to have sent that 19 year old back in time to when that 81yo was 19 and let him know what he did in the future and see what would happen.

Yeah that would be great. Unfortunately most hat crimes occur against victims that are smaller, older, outnumbered, etc.

These are just a fraction of recent ones. Imagine two or three stories of anyone bullying Obama hat wearers (or whatever similar). It'd be front page news and full on crisis mode hysteria on every channel and beyond.
And the bad part is this is just the beginning. There will come a day when it isn't just limited to hats. That day may already be upon us.

Imagine if this were reversed and a conservative teacher told a liberal kid wearing a Hillary hat we was acting like an a-hole.

The teacher wouldn't have lasted through the day.

In this instance, the teacher did eventually overreact, but the kid was violating the class (school?) rules by wearing the hat.

I don't think this was as much about what kind of apparel it was as to the apparel itself.
