The Top 10:
1. Kansas-The deepest pool of talent on one team since the '96 Kentucky squad.
2. North Carolina-Hansbrough + Wayne Ellington and Tywon Lawson= ACC title.
3. Florida-Defending champs return all their weapons. 'Nuff said.
4. Arizona-Very deep, versatile team. The class of the west coast.
5. Wisconsin-If Alando Tucker finally stays healthy, this is a Final Four caliber squad.
6. Alabama-Gottfried's best team. Ronald Steele is as good a guard as there is in America.
7. Pittsburgh-Solid, physical team. Jamie Dixon is a very, very good coach.
8. UCLA-They won't miss Jordan Farmar near as much as people think.
9. LSU-NBA quality talent all across the front line.
10. Boston College-If they find a competent PG, this may be too low.

i have a hard time disagreeing with any of this, then again if BC cannot find a competend PG, this may be way too high.

I could not agree more with your top 2, however, I was not impressed with Florida until they tore through the tournament. I would say that Florida goes as Corey Brewer goes and he seems to be quite streaky.

They were a top 10-15 team before the tournament. How many teams in that range return all their key contributors?

If they get hot, they have another great chance to win it all. If they do not get hot, and do not come to play against KU, Tosu, and UT (which is not until February for our sake), the they could very well not finish the season in the Top 15.

Ohio State is wildly overrated. They're not even the best team in their conference.

All from Greg Oden. Now, if they can get all those recruits they landed to stick around for 2-3 years, then the Thad Five might bring home a championship or two.

KU and UNC look to be the heavy favorites, though. Good call, hat.

Interesting to see UCLA in the top 10. I know next season they got Kevin Love coming in, a big stink has been made about this kid around here for the last couple years. And I know the UCLA fanbase is elated to get him over North Carolina. They will have a mean class if they land his fellow Oregonian Kyle Singler.

Also, gonna be a tough year for Gonzaga.

"Tough" is relative. They will still be a contender for the WCC title and an NCAA berth.

With the things the University has been giving to Mark Few, Sweet 16 is expected every year. Although the fanbase won't expect as much with guys like Turiaf and Morrison gone.

We'll see if Gurganious and Pendergraft can step up.

I'll try and get a ticket for their trip to U of P game.

Gonzaga will only lose 2 games this year, which just so happen to be the two games in which Top 50 tips off against them...

Texas, Washington, Duke and Memphis are all on the schedule... They may not be as good as last year, but not top 50?

My bad...4 top 50 teams, 4 losses. It is hard to remember that Udub is actually good at basketball, and that Memphis game sure is tucked in there on the schedule.

Late in the season. If the team looks prepped to make a tourney run, I am glad about that game's position on the schedule. Should be a good test beforehand.

I think Memphis and Uconn will have outside shots.Seems to be that way more years than not anyways with their coaching staff.

Question for Hat: What do you see the Wildcats doing this year with Huggs at the helm? Do you believe that K-State can beat everyone in the conference other than KU, Texas, and Oklahoma? Or do you think it will take a year or two to become the 4th best in the Big XII?

I'm going to guess you mean Oklahoma State, because the Sooners will finish 9th or worse in the Big 12 this year. Texas is painfully young this year. The only two teams significantly better than K-State going in are Kansas and Texas A&M. OK State, Texas, Texas Tech, and K-State will make up the next tier of the conference. Remember, K-State finished with a winning record last year. Huggs isn't inheriting a terrible team. Adding Blake Young, Jason Bennett, and Luis Colon to the returning nucleus gives Bob material to work with in Manhattan. My guess is the team improves as the year progresses and ends up finishing tied for fourth in the league and in the NCAA tournament.

I have another question for you, Hat. How good is the freshman class at Duke? Are they good enough, that McRoberts, Paulus, and Nelson will be able to carry them to #2 in the ACC?
