Isn't Paulus out for awhile with an injury? I saw a small blurb about it, but I don't even remember what he injured.

I have another question for you, Hat. How good is the freshman class at Duke? Are they good enough, that McRoberts, Paulus, and Nelson will be able to carry them to #2 in the ACC?
Gerald Henderson is very good. Lance Thomas will contribute as well. Duke will fight with BC and Florida State in the tier of teams below Carolina. I believe the Heels are clearly the best team in the ACC.

Thoughts on Missouri? Mike Anderson did wonders at UAB. Not sure how well the current Mizzou players fit his style.

He inherits almost no talent. Jason Horton has been a tremendous bust at PG and the rest of their personnel are role players at best. It will be a very long year in Columbia. Anything close to a .500 season would have to be considered a smashing success.

He did well with little at UAB. The best trait of his teams was they played the same whether up by 20 or down by 20. If the players left at Mizzou have some heart, they'll probably surprise a few teams this year.

There aren't a lot of coaches in the Big 12 you're going to sneak up on. Knight, Huggins, Self, and Barnes don't have all those career wins by luck.

A coach who played the Blazers twice a year told me those teams played as hard as any he has ever faced.

hat, several questions if you will:

1. the odds of Indiana, Tennessee, UNC, and Gonzaga in the final four of the NIT?
2. how good is Notre Dame? can you tell me about them?

i am going to the consolation and championship game in NYC and would love to see those four teams there, especially being a son of IU alumns and a new fan of the Bruce Pearl era.

lasty, your prognosis on the Kelvin Sampson era at IU and the effect of his sanctions on IU recruiting?

1. That's certainly how the NIT set things up. Baylor or Rice might give Gonzaga some trouble, as Fordham is a decent matchup against UT. That said, it would take a notable upset for any of those four to fail to reach MSG.
2. Notre Dame isn't very good. Collin Falls is a good shooter and Luke Zellner could develop into a solid big man. That's about it. I would expect them to finish in the bottom portion of the Big East.
3. Given that he's already roped Eric Gordon and is in the race for Derek Rose, I don't think the sanctions are hurting at all. There are so many ways around his phone restrictions, it really was just a symbolic punishment. I'm not a big Kelvin Sampson fan. I would expect his tenure at IU to mirror his time at Oklahoma. Good, not great.

hat, in your opinion, what is the biggest weakness in Florida coming into this year? I say its guard play. I think the front court is just about as good as you can ask, but the guards very questionable (relatively speaking)..

I disagree. Tauraen Green and Lee Humphries are a quality backcourt. Complacency is UF's biggest enemy.

1. The meaning of life is found in creating one new way to amuse one's self every day.
2. Yes. It flows into Raquel Welch's bathtub.
3. In the Gulf of Mexico, near the Florida-Alabama line.

The Top 10:
1. Kansas-The deepest pool of talent on one team since the '96 Kentucky squad.
2. North Carolina-Hansbrough + Wayne Ellington and Tywon Lawson= ACC title.
3. Florida-Defending champs return all their weapons. 'Nuff said.
4. Arizona-Very deep, versatile team. The class of the west coast.
5. Wisconsin-If Alando Tucker finally stays healthy, this is a Final Four caliber squad.
6. Alabama-Gottfried's best team. Ronald Steele is as good a guard as there is in America.
7. Pittsburgh-Solid, physical team. Jamie Dixon is a very, very good coach.
8. UCLA-They won't miss Jordan Farmar near as much as people think.
9. LSU-NBA quality talent all across the front line.
10. Boston College-If they find a competent PG, this may be too low.
Review:

1. I stand by my assessment of their talent. I am still puzzled at the occasional sleepwalk game.
2. I've seen nothing to indicate they won't be there at the end.
3. See #2.
4. As offensively dynamic as any team in the nation.
5. Check.
6. I'm beginning to believe they lack the consistency to validate this ranking.
7. Exactly what I expected them to be, except they've not performed as well as they should in end game situations.
8. I don't think they miss him at all.
9. But terribly shaky in the backcourt. Terry Martin will be a key for them in SEC play.
10. Let's see what the ACC holds for them. A disappointment to this point.
