Have we slowed tempo this year?

Our quick tempo is as fast if not fastener than last year. This year we ha e improved our slower tempo when we are trying to shorten a game being up 3 scores in the second half. We have had plenty of opportunities to work on that slower offense this year.

We are still fast to the line of scrimmage to prevent the defense substituting but then we let the clock run down some to survey the defensive alignment in my opinion.

This exactly. We’re fast in setting up to prevent the defense from adjusting. They can and do burn clock much better when they need to. Heupel has added this imo, they’re a lot more comfortable in shifting tempo up or down depending on what they’re trying to do.

It Seems to me we have slowed the tempo a little this year vs last year. We still play fast at times, but the number of series/plays we’ve run at lightening speed seems to be a little less this year.

The fake injuries seem way less this year as well.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I believe the tempo is just as high as last year while the team builds a lead, then slows a bit when it makes strategic sense.

The team seems to score faster this year with more yards per play (need a fact check). Anecdotally, when I'm watching the team play on YouTube, it generally takes ~12 seconds between the time the ball is down until the next snap. The opposing team usually takes twice that long. I believe our time of possession was less than 2 minutes per score for AL.

Anecdotally, again, there appear to be far fewer fake injuries this year. Not sure why. It might be because UT is on and off the field so quickly between scores that the opposing team doesn't have time to fake the injury. Or, it could mean that stopping the game doesn't actually help the defense that much, and could actually work against them by giving Heupel more time to call plays and the offense to rest. Or it could mean that the opposing team risks a penalty.

That being said, KY might resurrect the fake injury to slow the game down, but it won't matter.
