I was thinking about the number of abortions worldwide that have been made. Something that kind of disturbs me is what those little fellers were going to be? I am against it personally, but what if the baby who would have been the one to cure cancer was aborted? how many musicians, scientists, actors, educators, judges, presidents??? does anyone know the number that have been made worldwide?

I am sure the number is huge, but it would be impossible to even estimate, especially in countires like China. On the other hand, maybe we avoided another Hitler, Ted Bundy, Saddam Hussien....if you catch my drift.

Maybe Ted Bundy barbecued the next Hitler. That doesn't make murder or cannibalism acceptable.

I never said I was for or against it. I just said that there is just as good of a possiblity that potentially evil people were aborted as potentially good people. That's all.

Sometimes I wonder how many women I could have impregnated and just how wonderful those potential persons would be....

The point is, it is none of your business, and thank God you have no say in what other people must do.

i know one, the Bible does say that God knew you before you were born. he also says that we have been predestined (i forget the exact wording). so i'm pretty sure God thinks abortion is wrong. what makes abortion so bad is that we as a nation become so numb about taking life. you're going to see the next trend to be the killing of senior citizens.

There used to be a commercial, it was about 30 3-4 year old kids on a set of steps sitting. Cutest kids you ever saw, their common denominators was they were botched abortions. Beautiful children.

Yeah...but how many rapists and serial killers were aborted too...

I'm not for abortion...I'm actually very much against it...but I tried to make this same point in a bioethics class and was quickly shot down...

But if you think along your line of reasoning and ignore the point I brought up then it's definitely astounding to think of all we might have lost due to this practice

if our outcomes are predestined, weren't the abortions predestined as well? Omniscience has to work on both sides of that fence.

my guess is considering hte parents getting the abortions that society has benefited on the whole more than not

I tend to agree with both of those statements.

I'm neutral on abortion. Part of me hates it and part of me feels for the woman. It's a sad reality.

This is a compelling point.

Roughly 20% of all conceptions end in natural miscarriage (through no fault of the mother). Adding that up throughout human history, more fetuses have been lost due to natural causes than to human intervention. If God knew us before we were born then he has been the most prolific abortionist of all.

i'm talking about senior citizens that have various mental or physical problems. there are physicians that believe that should happen.

Their are more chapter and verse quotes regarding freewill and its controlling influence on our lives.
The predestined parts regard gods direction told heaven or hell and judgement.

This is why I really don't believe in god. If he does exist, he has some serious problems.

Great logic though, maybe we avoided someone who killed 30-40 people by killing 48,000,000 babies.

Even if we avoided the next Hitler and Stalin combined, that only brings the total to 30,000,000 saved from Genocide.

These arguments are fantastic and fun, too!

The point is this....bad things happen that we have no control over. If your God really does exist then this happens for one of two reasons...either he can't stop it, or he doesn't care to. In either case he is impotent or cruel. You can make token references to free will and other logical gymnastics or ethical incoherencies, but this is what it boils down to. Miscarriages happen and we can do nothing about it. God either can't stop it, or chooses not to. Only somebody blinded by the goggles of faith can't see the resulting hypocrisy of him holding us accountable for the same thing.
