Well that’s kind of the point of the movie. A white American man goes there thinking they are the enemy, then learns they are actually fighting for a noble cause and joins them, becoming a samurai.

It’s not like they just plopped a white dude in there and tried to pretend he was Japanese.

Maybe comparable to the Tudors? I got into that show for a while, so I'd definitely give this one a shot.

I liked the tudors. That was a good show.
