Saw it referenced in another forum and had to check. I quit reading the leftist rag KNS years ago and seldom watch our local leftist news except for sports scores. Sure enough I checked the interweb and found a story. Looks like the local leftist Mayor is going to throw a cool million bucks at the problem.

Mayor Indya Kincannon spoke first and expressed a desire for tangible change. She announced later Wednesday that she would be proposing a $1 million amendment to the city budget to jumpstart community-based violence prevention and interruption programs, saying these programs have proven effective at reducing violence elsewhere in the U.S.

It’s more complicated than the FB Karen’s acknowledge but it’s because:

- the Imperial Vice Lords and other gangs are in a turf war over drugs now that their 4th generation of thugs are hitting that age
- Several gang members from Detroit to Memphis to Atlanta and Chattanooga are involved in this violence.
- the Mayor and Chief Thomas have had a “hands off” liberal city response to BLM and have directed KPD not to use their resources in the problem areas until now in order not to offend black people
- KPD is having severe issues with staffing and recruitment with the liberal way the mayor utilizes Thomas as a puppet. They only have about half their officer positions full and even then too many “woke” rookies with inexperience.
- courts in knox county have been closed to COVID so most criminals are being granted bond free releases and are committing crimes over and over
- the East Knox community knows who is doing this but is unwilling to help with any information that would put these people behind bars

That last note is the real kicker and the biggest reason why this crap never goes away.

Last bullet should be
East Knox community knows who’s behind this but because of bullets above know they would become targets so they keep their mouths shut

When your taught in school and in society that there is no right and wrong and no consequences, why be worried about what will happen if you rob or murder someone

It changed a bit. They hated to see us come in from west Knoxville and trounce them. Getting out of there was always a bit dicey though since we stood out
My HS was Young High in South Knoxville and we usually sucked (this was early 70s).

Roanoke, VA to a T.

Won't comment on certain... attributes... of our city's leadership structure the last few years, but it has certainly encouraged a certain positive attitude towards criminality.

So Austin East is now requiring all students move to clear or mesh backpacks. Sounds like some discrimination going on. Probably have to expand that to all of Knox County to maintain fairness.

The city has been trying to pretend like all 3 of these kids weren’t the intended targets, but I would imagine at least one of them was. They wouldn’t be pushing the clear backpacks unless they suspected this was all gang related and that there are going to be more attacks. Word is there is a list going around with students names that are potential targets by the gangs.

Yea, I've been wondering about that. Seems like KCS and everyone involved are working the PR pretty hard. I have to believe some, if not all, of these kids are involved in the gang lifestyle.

The real tragedy is that it’s not simply East Knoxville. It’s that kids from Austin-East High School are being shot and killed.

The mayor is going to flush a million dollars to pretend like she’s addressing our problem. KPD is going to increase patrols. A better solution is for the fathers of these kids participate in the kid’s lives. Bad parenting is toxic to that community. Government housing programs that reduce benefits when fathers are present in homes is an absurd policy.

If students at a west end school were being gunned down I can guarantee that there would be a posse of armed fathers surrounding those schools and ending it real quick. Unfortunately the liberals in the city administration are exploiting the community’s tragedies to push their gun control narrative.

The $100 million of reparations is being doled out at $10 million/year for 10 years. But it is being wasted by creating yet another government office to administer another government program. As if there isn’t enough government already in place to spend this money. More government jobs equals more democratic voters.
