Heather Mason FIRED

I'm a relatively big fan of humor, but throwing out insults at someone based solely on how they look doesn't really strike me as humorous.

Yeah... it's the internet. I get it. But it's a shame that common courtesy and consideration can quickly fade when people sit behind a keyboard.

Amen!

I would make sure my employee's base pay was equal across the board for people holding the same position. Yeah, it's a tough situation. But, the thing that struck me were the comments regarding the ability to sue. Depending on the actual circumstances of the termination, I don't think she'll have a problem finding suitable employment. Law suits, such as this one, sometimes ensure that the checks and balances are in position and being used correctly.

That's why communism didn't work...reality trumps idealism...even when forcibly implemented...now I got to break some bad news little champion...about Santa Claus....

You are pretty naive if you think there is any way to insulate yourself from a lawsuit. Take this case for instance. Should her pay be the same for providing services to a program that loses money as it is for say the football S&C coach who works for a program bringing in millions... or that at least has to bring in millions for the other programs to even continue existing? Do you open up a way for her to advance into a position on the men's side when that is not her area of competency and when her own strength is nothing like that of the men she would be training? Would she be able to spot for them and protect them? Or would it even be fair to limit who you could hire for the men's side based on those considerations? What would her salary likely be if she were not working here? It is surely at the upper end of what coaches of her sort are paid who work for other women's teams. So what is your benchmark?

I don't know the answer but you can't really compare apples to oranges to come up with your wage rate. And you are ALWAYS comparing apples and oranges because what duties you give a person always depends upon their abilities and no two positions are ever the same. Someone will always feel aggrieved. It is human nature. And when that happens they will sue.

All that being said, it would not surprise me a bit if Hart has screwed this whole thing up. Enough things happened during the last coaching search to make me believe he is not a straight shooter and does not have a high level of competency.

In the market place you will most often be paid less than what you are truly worth. It is because it is almost impossible for an employer to pay you exactly what you're worth and they most certainly won't pay you more than you're worth so most often they will pay you less than what you're worth. You can usually find another employer who will pay you more but if you job shop often enough you will eventually be paid more than what you're worth and not last very long.

P.S.-By the way over on the Summit they just can't believe some of the posters on here about how they are dissing Mason. Maybe the dissing is unwarranted but are they just a bunch of little old ladies over there?

Maybe they're astonished at the number of sexist and misogynist comments about someone's appearance (which has nothing to do with her job, as she's not a model or TV announcer, etc etc), especially on an individual forum that is devoted to women's sports?

:dunno:

--other than Jimmy Cheek's questionable eating habits, I don't remember reading the crap about his appearance on the umpty-billion posts about him that I've read here.

Why the hell does anyone care what Heather Mason looks like, or anyone else for that matter? You can like or dislike her job performance or the fact that she sued, but when posters go on and on about how she looks and whether Grizz would hit her and so forth, it makes them appear to be a collection of 12-year-olds.

"relieved of duties" or "fired"...I've been following Moshak, Mason, Schlosser, and Jennings and Ford for a while. Love to know what, if any, new info those from the Summitt would care to share or any insider for that matter. When Schlosser (sp?) and Mason end up gone in the midst of a lawsuit THEY filed, one must wonder.

Listen, I haven't made one comment about the way she looks, but I will respond to your comments anyways. Are those people out of line? Probably, but everyone needs to chill. If you come to a sports forum that is made up of 95% + males, you are going to get comments about how women look... Look at half the Avatars on here... Hell, we have a Girls of (Insert any opponent, John Gruden, Offseason, etc.)... People that are easily offended shouldn't log-on to the internet...

I'm not easily offended. I was speculating on what the poster I quoted mentioned.

And I completely understand that Volnation is a guy's playground. I'm just kinda surprised when this stuff shows up on the Lady Vols forum.

lulz

* attempts to avoid doing the mental math to remember how many years it has been since I was a girl surrounded by 12- (or 14-) year-old boys *

You're right; 14-year-olds are funnier!

True, the only reason I came in to this topic was because it was on the front page. I could care less about the topic I just like to argue... I am a man after all... :p :hi:

I always have the last word with my wife. "Yes dear."

lol, works for me.

--addendum that no one will believe: DH and I simply don't disagree on stuff, not longer than 20 minutes or so. He's smart; I'm smart; between the two of us, we come up with a win-win solution.

* gets last word in again * :pepper:

Anyway, vive la difference and all that.

Wow , looks like Holly substantiates , Harts firing of Mason and throws Heather right under the bus...

In a recent interview with the Sports Animal, Lady Vols basketball coach Holly Warlick said she will have considerable input in hiring Mason’s replacement, adding, “We have to get in better shape. We have to get basketball specific. "

You almost have to conclude that if Holly has considerable input in the new hire, she also had considerable input in the firing of Mason.

It sounds like the glowing evaluations that she received were from Moshak.

Hopefully we'll get somebody that can make a difference with our team in physical conditioning.

I have no idea if this is the case or not but in some companies/organizations you have to give someone a glowing performance review in order to get them any monetary increase at all.....IE an Excellent review equals a 3-5% increase some years...

So? It looks like that may have been the pattern in the past. Some do not earn an increase because they did not do their job and are fired..
