With Oregon losing last night while Dixon set on the sidelines you would have to figure that his chances are slim.

I read an interesting article that identified the top Heisman candidates as being Tebow, Dorsey, and McFadden. I think Tebow has to be in the lead but I wonder if there is going to be some hesitation on the voters behalf to award the trophy to a Sophmore.

What do you guys think?

Tebow and Reissen (sp) the quarterback for KU will be getting a lot of looks as well...Depending on if they can win out....The qb from Mizzou should also be considered....But, with all that said I still think its Tebows trophy to lose....Just MO.

The sophomore issue will be significant to a lot of voters. If the Gators were undefeated or had just the one tough loss at LSU, they might overlook that. But with three losses, its a convenient justification to say that they will vote for him next year, or the year after, on the assumption that the team will have a better record later.

Go ahead and hand it to Tebow. It was just about silly to have Dixon ahead of Tebow before Dixon even got injured. Tebow will most likely end up with 50+ TDs and it was only a matter of time before Oregon threw up all over themselves and people sat back and realized that Tebow had superior (and not really close) numbers to Dixon.

I agree....But, I just don't see how they can't give it to Tebow this year (as bad as I hate to say it) I guess it depends on how the final two games are played....If Arkansas can muster up a win against LSU and Mcafadden puts up good numbers, then he will be back out front...To be honest I am not even real sure who the finalist will be....Tebow, DMAC, Dixon, (Reiseen, Daniels, White, Slaton, Ryan or Dorsey) Any of those guys could jump in or jump out of the race by season's end...

I would really like to see Dorsey start to get some attention. The Heisman is for the best player in the country not the best player on the best team. Dorsey would start and dominate his position if he played for any team in the country. Plus he has put up some stupid numbers despite constant double teams and extra attention. That Long kid has some hellacious numbers also.

I truly hope that Tebow is not put in a position this weekend where he puts up ridiculous numbers against a weak FAU team. Another 7 touchdown performance and people will mock him for the weakness of the competition and use that to distract away from what he did against better oppnents. Honestly, he'd be better off with 4 touchdowns in that game than 7. Save his best game for FSU next weekend and that would impress the voters much more, IMO.

As you know, I do think that Tebow is deserving of the honor, but he is just a sophomore in a year with no real standouts. I think it would be better and more meaningful to him 30 years form now if he won it next year.

I watched some of Spurriers coaches show the other night and he never once commented on Tebow until he stated something about him breaking some kind of rushing record for TDs. Not sure if he was just mad at his teams performance or wasn't that impressed with Tebow.

Neither.

I just think that Spurrier senses that it would be truly bad form for him, as former coach of the Gators, as a former Gator player, to gush on and on about Tebow. I am quite confident he likes the kid and wishes he had one like him on that squad, but of all the coaches in the country, SOS is in the absolute worst position to ever say so.

Spurrier was probably busy trying to say how tough the 3rd year is for the coaching staff at a new team... nevermind the fact he was talking SEC Championship during the pre-season.

I dont think Tebow would be Tebow in any other offense other than Meyers...With that said, Meyer is going to get him hurt...I understand Urbans wants to bring the Heisman and a NC to Gainesville from a recruiting standpoint..But, if Tim doesnt win it this year, and Meyer runs him like this next season he may not even be mentioned for the heisman race....Tebow will have a weapon at RB next year though, but they will still get what they have coming from alot of SEC teams...Meyer's time to pay the piper is coming.....

There have been times this year at the end of some games where I sort of scratch my head about leaving Tebow in, and definitely raise an eyebrow when he's running the ball with the game well in hand.

I am hoping that with the addition of Moody next year at RB and a summer to work on the passing game, Tebow is going to be transitioned into a much more traditional role as a throwing QB. I mean, he definitely can throw the thing a mile. He just needs that extra experience at reading defenses, being in-sync with the receivers, etc.

I agree with that...It's crazy to watch Meyer call a game, I know he coaches a spread type offense...But, the Spread is built around sweeps etc etc....Tebow is running off tackle right off tackle left, dive middle....It's crazy, but it makes for excitement and pours fuel on the fire of hate that I have for your beloved Gators...

I guess in the end he goes with what works and he fits his plan around the players. How many times on here have people complained about other coaches that seem unwilling to alter their own scheme to fit the players?

I am not bashing the man by any means, and I totally agree about coaches not wanting to change schemes to match the players....I guess Meyer just comes off to me as arrogant, conceited man who is trying to concrete his name in the SEC...I wonder like you do, his tactics of leaving his players on the field when the game is already well in hand I suppose he tries to get style points for the voters...Another recruiting tool....Hes a good coach and coaches at a great University....I still find it hard to believe that in his contract at Utah his only clause was if ND called he would go...Can't help but wonder how the Irish would be with him on the sidelines...Another interesting tidbit is UF may be lining up against the fighting Zookers in the Capital One Bowl....I know most of the players Zook recruited are long gone, but I am sure he will be ready for the one if it were to come....

Meyer's going to try to get Tebow 10 touchdowns on Saturday against Florida Atlantic.

Did I see right that Harvin is out of that game for migrains? I don't think I've heard that one before.

I can't keep up with the criteria for winning the award, as it seems to change on a yearly basis. Using history as an indicator, I'd say:

1. The best player from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, or Miami. That is impossible to determine this year, as "best" is an adjective inappropriate for use in conjunction with any of those teams.

2. The best player from the best team. That's probably Glen Dorsey, who has no chance, as a defensive player cannot ever win the Heisman

3. A golden boy QB from a team with eye-popping stats. The catch here is that he can't play for Hawaii or Missouri, which would make Matt Ryan the leader except for the fact that he is "only" 8-2. Also, Dennis Dixon is disqualified because his team lost a game in which he was injured in the first quarter.

4. The best skill position player in the country. That's Darren McFadden.
