We are a big time school and we still do not have a heisman winner.
Can Kiffin produce a heisman here in the next few years?

Yeah, his name is Eric Berry, and he could be the second defensive player to ever win the Heisman if the new coaches will play him on ST. Otherwise, I doubt it.

Sorry dude...not gonna happen! Berry could int 15 passes and return all for TD and catch 100 passes for 1500 yards and 23 TD and return 12 punts for TD and still wouldnt win it! ESPN has to much control over the Heisman and what once was thought of as a prestigous award is tarnished with nothing but a popularity contest!

Unless you are a school(USC, Florida, ND, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio ST, Michigan, along with a few others) that kisses ESPN's rectum you wont get it

I am a Huge CFB fan and I watched about 5 mins of the show the other night because one my friends was here wanting to see who won it. I had not watched a single min of it since 1998 until then. Realized it was bogus when Champ Bailey finished 7th in heisman voting in 98 when he had better number across the board than Woodson did in 97 and not only did bailey finish 7th but finished behing 5 QBs that had no where near the numbers Peyton put up against better competition.

This is true about berry. It will never happen. He is an awesome kid. Also not only you have to go to one of these schools but you almost have to be a rb or qb

Maybe the heisman winners could go on dancing with the stars

i mean seriously....I can remember when people talked about the heisman it was a very special player at the college level and has there ever been a player more deserving of the Heisman than Peyton in 1997? he represented all that was good in football, not only on the field but off the field also. And since ESPN gained control of the Heisman it is nothing but a popularity contest!

Agreed... And may i also say the BCS is a popularity contest as well. Who they want in the NC game at the start of the season will find a way there just like LSU over GA last year.

How about Texas beating Oklahoma not getting a shot at the BCS game? Took TT an amazing play to get by Texas while Tex lokked strong against OKLA.....**** is flawed!

Back to the talk of Heisman winners. Can anybody tell me why you would want it. Look at the history of Heisman winners they go nowhere in the NFL. Just remember this topic after BCS Championship you will see Bradford will struggle. Think back florida vs michigan (tebow), ohio vs florida (smith). I say they keep their Heisman then take it to the NFL like Manning.

Who cares? I'd rather him focus on producing SEC and national championship trophies than Heismans.

Anyway, I think there is a secret bylaw in the DAC rules that says no player who plays for the University of Tennessee may finish higher than second in the balloting for the Hypesman.

It's not a career award. That's why the next 2 to win after Peyton set the all time rushing record. They did it in one season, you remember?

If Peyton couldn't win it for us, no one from UT ever will....and I couldn't care less.

i'm no tebow lover, but i read where his name was left off 159 ballots. i understand there are three names each voter is supposed to list, in order of preference. i also understand that if tebow had been listed third on those ballots, he would have won. i believe this is similar to what happened to peyton manning. is there anyone who knows the first thing about college football who would argue with a straight face that tebow is not one of the three best players in america or that charles woodson was more deserving than peyton? there is one word for this: shabby. as far as i am concerned the whole heisman charade is one big crock.

Tebow didnt deserve it this year. People here need to stop crying about 97. If we play great and WIN. A qb or rb will have a chance here. It will be hard for EB to get it unless UT promotes him heavy and the networks have a Tim Tebow-esque suck fest over him.

I have no great love for the BCS, but UGA got more consideration than they deserved last year as it was. Try Auburn being left almost entirely out of the discussion and the AP not giving them a faux championship out of pity like they did for SoCal the year before when Auburn went undefeated in the SEC a few years back if you want to argue popularity contests and the media.

I hope he doesn't win it. Heisman winners are flops in the pros. Look at Woodson, Howard, Wuerffel, Weinke, Ware and so on.

Very few turn out to be Marcus Allen or Barry Sanders.

Berry will be a Top 3 pick in two years and will be a dominate NFL safety. Ronnie Lott type.

While I am no Manning fan i very much agree with your thoughts on that however,Tebow was left off of 154 of the 904 ballots that were returned, 93 voters left Bradford off their ballots, and the 120 left McCoy off.
