Like 615 Vol said in the Predict The 2011 Chase thread, Daytona is not far off. I need your input as to ideas/suggestions of how we can make the Pick "Em contest more fun and interesting. Suggestions there be a new administrator will result in receiving the job.

OR..................do you even want to have the contest?

Throw out anything that comes to mind, even if unusable, it may spark an idea that is. I am not going to even attempt to request serious ideas only, I know better.

I think limiting the number of times a person can select each driver would be a good idea, but the logistics would make that difficult to manage.

I think this has merit, it would create a bit more work, but I believe it could be done. What does everyone think? How many times should the maximum be? 36 races - 12 times? How about a sliding scale based on a driver's "seeding". Example: A Jimmie Johnson can only be picked 6 times, a Robby Gordon 24 times.

I believe a spread sheet with all drivers listed allowing recording each entrants pick would work.

What did you think about the "Mulligan Rule" last year? Should it be retained?

How about some sort of team competition?

Loved picking, but I missed a week..After that I was gone. My fault though!

I see no issue with the muilligans, they help if someone has a brain fart.

My thinking behind the limited number of picks per driver is that it will take a little more planning/strategy as to when and where to use drivers.

The team concept is sort of interesting, though im not sure how you would be able to implement it.

Just shotgunning ideas out there

The limited number of picks per driver might be hard to keep up with, for both the participants and rbroyles. I know I would have a hard time keeping up with which drivers I couldn't use anymore after a certain point. Personally, I like it the way it is.

:rock:If we have a max to pick a driver, then I think we should be able to do it 50% of the time.:eek:k:
Mulligans- 4 (1 every 9 races).
All scores count. Maybe we should do the top 10-12 as they do in NASCAR, with one minor exception: in lieu of 5 points make it 10 or 20.

How about expanding it to Top 10 Pick'Em? Bonus would start at 5 of top 10?

I think having some sort of Chase format would be interesting, maybe having chase contenders only able to select chase drivers.

Sounds good, but you have to realize other drivers have a shot at winning too. So you'd eliminate other drivers who would have a shot at making the top 10 in the final 10 races.

i love the pick em contest and attempt it every year. but with a season that goes almost year round, i always end up missing more than one race and end up quitting because i get too far behind. i know many of you guys are johnny on the spot every week, but many are not. would be nice to have a way to compete the full season even if you cant be on VN every week of the season. just a thought.

How many "Mulligans" does it take to keep people involved?
I cannot see more than 3 or so. Gets to be a lot of extra work. Please comment.

I have also fooled around and forgot to enter from time to time, and I will agree it is a killer.

Here is my suggestion. Each participant gets two mulligans per season, one for the lowest score (as usual), and one for a forgotten week. If someone forgets a week, their score of 0 will be dropped at seasons end, plus the lowest score of a race they did enter. If a participant enters every week, they will have their two lowest scores dropped. If someone misses two or more races, they will be forced to take a 0 for every week they don't have a mulligan. This way, if you have a brain fart and forget one weekend, you will not be out of the hunt, but you will have to be sure to not let it happen again. Does that make since?

Makes Synce. I would rather keep the mulligans to a minimum. Otherwise, it takes a lot of the "skill" out of it.

I see what you did there. :)

But yeah, that was my thinking. Don't want to give away too many mulligans. One for a low score and one for a forgotten week should be enough. If you want to participate, you need to make it your responsiblity to remember to enter every week.

what if you allow posters a standby top 5 that will always be entered if they forget to enter? At the beginning of the season, everyone picks a top 5 that will be used if they forget to enter. Keep the one mulligan for lowest score, but it this will keep it easy on mulligans and for those that can't enter every week, they have a standby.

Let me save you some time by telling you that I'll be playing again this year.

Honestly, I would leave it at one mulligan or two at the very most.

Another fun game would be to place drivers in a group A, group B, and group C like the guys on Speed channel do and everyone must pick drivers from each group, say 2 from group A, 2 from B and 1 group C driver.

Group A would be elite drivers, Group B would be next level guys and Group C would be guys that run every lap but don't have much success.

That list could change as the year goes on if a driver is doing well and needs to move into a higher group or move down for struggling.

I like this idea better than restrict the number of times you pick a driver, much easier to keep up with. It should keep the competition closer with more people in contention late in the season. I think I will put up a poll to get feedback to the more likely changes. Please vote everyone. I don't want to make a change, and then have most say they don't like it.

If this one is implemented, I could use a couple of volunteers to form a selection committee, so it wouldn't be just my opinion as to what level to seed drivers.
