i like that idea too.

i'd say me, tid, you, downdirty, and sixsynse could come up with solid groupings.

Sure, I'll help. I say we put our heads together and come up with a list. We will disagree I'm sure on some drivers and what group the belong in, but rbroyles can make the ultimate decision on who goes where at the start and change as the season goes along.

Overall a good listing, my questions are Jeff Burton in A and Allmendinger in C with Kesolowski in B.

I pretty much set the groups by the final points standings from 2010.

I had Burton in A and Bowyer in B at first, but then switched them because Bowyer has won a race since Burton has. They can both be in A or move Bowyer back to B.

Allmendinger finished higher in the points and ran better in 2010 than Kesolowski did, so I put him in B and Kesolowski in C. Allmendinger ran well pretty regularly, while Kesolowski really didn't show much on the Cup side.

Honestly, I would leave it at one mulligan or two at the very most.

Another fun game would be to place drivers in a group A, group B, and group C like the guys on Speed channel do and everyone must pick drivers from each group, say 2 from group A, 2 from B and 1 group C driver.

Group A would be elite drivers, Group B would be next level guys and Group C would be guys that run every lap but don't have much success.

That list could change as the year goes on if a driver is doing well and needs to move into a higher group or move down for struggling.
This better than limiting the number of times a driver can be picked. I also like some kind of a chase competition.

That's a good list to start with. I could see Marcos Ambrose moving up to the B list at some point if Petty can remain competitive with two cars.

Here is my suggested grouping taking Syxx's and adding a few drivers with a couple of changes too. If I go to this "Restricted" plan, I am seriously considering making it a pick six with two from each group. Comments?

Group A

Jimmie Johnson
Denny Hamlin
Kevin Harvick
Carl Edwards
Matt Kenseth
Mark Martin
Tony Stewart
Kyle Busch
Kurt Busch
Jeff Gordon
Greg Biffle
Clint Bowyer
Jeff Burton
Jamie McMurray

A.J. Allmendinger
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Martin Truex Jr.
Paul Menard
Brad Keselowski
Marcos Ambrose
Elliott Sadler

Group C

David Ragan
Regan Smith
Sam Hornish Jr.
Scott Speed
Bobby Labonte
David Gilliland
Robby Gordon
Travis Kvapil
Casey Mears
Kevin Conway
Michael McDowell
Joe Nemechek
Mike Bliss
Dave Blaney
Trevor Bayne

i would limit group A to just the chase drivers.

group b would be the rest of the top 25.

group C would cover everybody else, be it the Saids or Elliotts or Conways.

I thought of A being just Chase drivers too, but then thought it might be better to have groups more equal in number of drivers. It would be good to make C include anyone entered in any given race not in A or B.

What do the rest think?

How about having 1 race a season (administrators choice) instead of picking the top 5...pick the 10th-15th places instead?

How about having a race where at race time you annouce for this race only points are doubled or tripled?

How about having races instead of pole winners have the bonus be what driver is leading the race at lap 73 or 138?

Why not have our own "chase for the championship"? Have a regular season winner and then let the top 15 battle it out the final 10 races. Maybe have bonus points for wins and then drop off in 10 pt increments at the start of the chase.

1. I think picking something other than top 5 could be interesting.

2. Not as hot on this one, unless I can declare after I see how my picks are doing. JK

3. Why not do both? Leader at halfway?

I know speaking for myself, once it became clear I couldn't win, it was trying to at least make the top 5, then top10 that kept my interest going. I believe it is similar for most others, and this would remove the reason for all but the top 15 to continue.

I can have a Chase contest like before. I didn't this past year because so few entered it the previous year, I assumed no one else was interested.

I'm starting to get confused, but I'm hoping rbroyles is keeping it straight.

One reason I didn't participate in the Chase contest year before last was because I wasn't sure how it was working. The regular season contest was still up and then there was a whole other contest too. Maybe when we decide what we are going to do this year, we can have a Chase contest that starts along with the actual Chase. And like someone else said, have a regular season winner, and a Chase winner.

I've always advocated picking a random finishing position in the race for fun along with the top 5. Each week it could change. One week you try to pick who would finish 23rd and the next who would finish 11th or something along that line. Or how about even the highest points scorer each week gets to pick that random number for the next week? You only get the bonus points for that position if you nail it dead right too - and it needs to be like a 50-100 point bonus.

Oh, also like the halfway bonus leader pick.
