Help Understanding TN Gun Laws

Jury nullification is a feature of our system of justice. Juries can always make their own determination about whether a crime has been committed. What they can't do is lie when questioned during selection. This is what happened in the Vandy rape case. One juror did not disclose when asked that she had been a victim of sexual assault. It resulted in a new trial.

I'm pretty sure if they find out anything about jury nullification that you will be replaced with an alternate immediately

That's why smart jurors don't talk about the deliberations afterward, if they care about their decision.

It's legal in other states and should in ours. Shouldn't have to be done in secret. Keep the power with the people

Let me be clear, juries can make whatever decision they want. What they can't do is become a juror under false pretenses.

If a juror mentions nullification in tn they will be replaced. If a defendant argues for nullification there will be a mistrial. Both of these are wrong. The validity of the law should always be in question

I was looking into this yesterday, and I can't believe TN doesn't allow non- felons to open carry.

I'm all for the 2nd amendment, I just think most folks aren't prepared for if they really have to shoot someone

I have a cousin under 21 and I'm trying to see if he can legally carry a handgun in his vehicle. I know you don't need a permit in TN to carry a loaded handgun in your vehicle. But I'm not certain of age requirements.

Here's the link to the law in question, but if references two other laws that I'm having a hard time finding on my phone:

Really?

I have made the argument time and time again that the police have an equal duty in not enforcing invalid/unconstitutional laws, as well.

If he doesn't have a firearm in his possession, he is 100% not prepared to shoot someone, even if he needs to.

Training is priceless, dry fire training at home done safely keeps muscle memory strong, taking the live tactical training course would help where you engage in air soft and paintball style scenarios with instructors, no body can be prepared enough and it will happen when you least expect it,atleast that's what statistics show, I pray I never have to use deadly force, situational awareness classes and having a non confrontational lifestyle helps. I'm not saying stay inside all the time but knowing when to get out before a situation occurs or how to defuse a situation without using force.

They do allow handgun carry permit holders to open carry or conceal carry, that's why it's a Handgun Carry Permit and not a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit.

Yeah I would most likely never open carry unless I'm at a range or something where it's definitely going to be a lot of open carrying going on.

I had a range officer chew me out for open carrying when I showed up at the range because I entered with a loaded firearm. First time at that range, I've done it before at other places no problem. I just don't like the attention open carry brings.

open carry is becoming a nuisance to respectable 2A supporters, I would love to carry my ar everywhere I go but I'm not leaving a firearm in my vehicle in Memphis, or anywhere for that matter, ive seen some vehicle safes that bolt to inside the vehicle and secure a rifle / carbine pretty well, with this Brave Response Holster I just ordered I hope to be able to carry my glock 22 concealed comfortably, with upto 3 extra mags , if I ever need 60 rounds of .40 in a gun fight God really hates me ,ill mainly carry 1 estra mag , flashlight, and a turniquete, and if you do carry a gun I highly recommend you learn some first aid and carry a turniquete , qquick clot or some type of small first aid kit, even tampons can stop / slow bleeding, it may help you in court if you ever use deadly force to stop a threat, I'm a former emt so I kinda have to help someone if I shoot them (as long as the threat is stopped)

theres a lot of responsibility in carrying a gun, I worked at a shooting range where in my first week a man shot himself in the chest and died on scene, I was emt school at the time and going through firefighting training, that accident is what kept me from obtaining my carry permit, but now that I have a family and with everything going on in this world I don't me or a loved one becoming a victim or statistic.

I would never perform first aid on an attacker.

You never know if an attacker that is still alive is still a threat or not. Keep a safe distance, take cover, watch for other threats, call 911.

I would say that's an earned chewing. Our club is cold range all over. Even if you have an HCP you don't carry a loaded gun onto the property. I don't take a loaded gun from the car to the line and I don't want other people doing it.

That's what you're expected to do as a permit holder in Tennessee. Like he said. It'll help you out in court if the person you shot happens to die.

Yeah, I get it if that's their rule so be it. The guy was a real dick about it though. You could tell he was used to dealing with amateurs, at the time I was shooting competitively. I haven't been back to that range since. I'll stick to the places that don't treat everyone like children shooting for the first time.
