but Teresa can release it right?? I highly doubt she would, but if she wants DEI to have any fans, I think she should...

nope.

the way it works is NASCAR leases the rights for each number to the car owners. even if they struck a deal for a swap, NASCAR could veto it, which they basically said they were going to do. get ready to buy new Junior gear.

I guess she can release it, but it sounds like in that article that the #8 is in NASCAR'S control, I dunno.

Nothin' wrong with #5.

I don't see how RCR keeps the #3... I thought part of the process was you had to actually use/have plans for the number.

Of course, TEI does as well, but my understanding was you had to have the number on a car. That's obviously proven not to be the case for the #3.

hmm...i haven't heard that. the way i understood it was as long as you were paying NASCAR for that number, you can do whatever you want with it.

That must be the case since there hasn't been a #3 car on the track in the Cup Series since 2001.

I could've sworn I heard some people explain it that the number had to be on the track however.

I do remember back when Mike Skinner went back to the Truck Series when Larry McReynolds was a part owner of his team, they wanted to use the #3 since Mike drove the #3 truck (for RCR) back in his Truck days, but there was a freakin' outrage from the fans and he used another number instead, lol.

well I dont understand why this rule hasnt been talked about before now? esp since Jr has said he wanted to keep the 8... if Jr wants it, he'll get it (as long as Teresa agrees) :rtfm:

I could care less if he gets a new number, ive never really been a fan of the number 8.......however, its not every day that someone as big as Dale Jr switches teams.....therefore, i think theres a good chance he'll keep it if he wants to...Im sure Hendrick knows some loopholes around the rules

Hendrick Motorsports wants to buy the #8 so that Dale Earnhardt Jr. can race it next season. But it's not for sale, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer. The story quoted NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston, who said NASCAR owns and issues the numbers and that teams can't sell them. He said a team can allow another to use the number for a year as long as NASCAR approves. The report said Dale Earnhardt Inc., which uses the number, was aware of NASCAR's policy on selling numbers. Hendrick Motorsports officials weren't available for comment.(Dallas Morning News)(6-26-2007)

Like I said before, Teresa could make a really smart move, let Jr keep the 8 and maybe she'll salvage some DEI fans instead of pissing even more of them off.........

I couldn't care a less what number he has, I just want him to do well, win some races, and maybe get a championship.

I don't know why people have to lump all Dale Jr. fans into one group.

I agree with USAF, handwringing over his number is about as asinine as worrying about the logo on the hood of his car.

So... How would you like it if they wanted to change Tennessee orange to blue or some other color? I'm sure that wouldn't be a people pleaser with Tenn. fans either!

If the rule is true and Teresa wont let Jr drive the 8 next year, he will be in the 5 or 25
