Hendrick cannot buy the 8

So... How would you like it if they wanted to change Tennessee orange to blue or some other color? I'm sure that wouldn't be a people pleaser with Tenn. fans either!

so you're equating over 100 years of tradition to a driver who has been in a nextel cup ride for less than 10 years?

nice perspective, a little high on hyperbole and emotion, but seriously lacking in proper context.

Just as I thought.... you didn't like it! I didn't think that you would! 100 years, isn't the issue! The issue is that it's all you have ever known! Why would you, and why should Jr. fans have to like it, because it hasn't been a hundred years! Sounds like a lame excuse to argue the topic in your favor!

Irish are you a Jr. fan or a red #8 fan?? He is not going to be driving a red Bud car next year either. What is the big deal?? Got it tattoo'd on you?? Stupid move if you do. Drivers change teams. They change numbers. It happens. Do you think Johnson will always drive the lowes #48? Nope. Noone thought GM Goodwrench would ever leave Childress.

About the #3.
Is not the only one. Remember the #28 has been out of use since before the #3. Yates has talked of maybe bringing it back though. Jarrett started the #88 then Yates changed to the #38 and "retired" the #28.

I would agree with USAF as well if what he claims to be happening was actually happening.

Are you kidding me Tidwell? Have you not seen the pathetic "Free the Eight" drive?

It is so stupid. Change teams, change numbers (As ALVol pointed out)...what do people not get with this? Cry me a freakin river good lord people.

Look at the Jr fans that I pissed off with my remark....interesting. Oh nevermind, Jr can do whatever he wants because he IS nascar.

I'm not going to even honor that with a response other than this:fool:

No. Can you point me in the general direction of those posts here which forced you to break into hysertics?

Where was anyone crying during the civilized discussion about the rules of numbers and whatnot in NASCAR?

Who is mad here, other than you?

The 28 was on the track as recently as 2002 when Ricky Rudd was still driving for Yates. They switched to the #38 in 2003 when Sadler came to the team along with M&Ms.

I made a general reply, not directed to anyone in particular but overall about my disgust in the number change.

I am not mad, I don't give a crap what they do, but the overall "waa waaa my driver should keep his number waaa waaa" is pretty stupid.

Sorry everyone because I don't believe in the people pleasing

I see. I thought you were saying a bunch of people here were getting all torn up about it... personally, I'd like him to continue driving the #8, but I also realize it's likely not going to happen, and I'm fine with it. I, like most of the Jr. fans I've came in contact with, don't care enough to start petitions or camp out in front of TEI in protest, heh...

you don't have to like it, you just have to accept it. If UT changes their colors tomorrow, it won't stop me from being a fan. I learned a long time ago that it's not the clothes that make the man (or the woman).

I see it like if Tenn went to all black with orange highlights in the unis, I would be upset and voice it. I know not everyone cares about it but some people do care about his number 8. :hi:

I think it's only natural for fans of a team, player, driver, etc. to be a little upset at first about them going to another team, changing their colors, sponsors, etc.

The people that still freak out over it after some time has passed while letting it consume their lives are the disturbing ones.

You didn't piss me off at all! Actually, I could care less what #, or sponser he drives for. Yes, I have a preference, but I'm going to be a fan of his regardless! I was simply trying to suggest an analogy that I knew was more personal to you. As it should be! Anyone who is a real fan of a team, individual, or anything for that matter is emotional. It is what keeps it all interesting, otherwise sports would be very boring and pointless.

well I dont understand why this rule hasnt been talked about before now? esp since Jr has said he wanted to keep the 8... if Jr wants it, he'll get it (as long as Teresa agrees) :rtfm:

Well guys I heard on ESPN2 last night that if Hendrick wants to buy the 8, NASCAR will allow it.... no offer has been made yet but NASCAR said it wont interfere if HMS and TEI can reach a deal....like I said, if Jr wants it, he'll get it :peace2:

Some of the Jr people freaked out when he went to HMS. They weren't true Jr fans. Same goes for the #8 Bud car. We'll see who the real Jr fans are next.
Same went for other drivers (i.e. Bobby Labonte, DJ, Elliott Sadler). Most of those fans had already had their jackets. Now the Jr fans will have to buy "6.7!" Just kidding! LOL!

By the way, I saw on NASCAR RaceDay last weekend that 100% of the proceeds for those pathetic "Free the Eight" t-shirts are going to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

why would junior want to keep the 8? it's a marketing goldmine. Change numbers, sell new gear to all your new and old fans. Take the 25 or 5 and run with it. better yet, is the number 11 available?
