Here is the answer you have been looking for (with proof-LOOONG).

No Stoops, Miles, Saban, etc.

This list presupposes that most of those guys have hit their potential. In essence, I am looking for coaches with an upside, who haven't peaked and are "gettable".

When I originally published this post, Stoops was laughable as an option. But his performance is in the Saban, Richt, Miles range...but, his recruiting is suspect compared to those other guys.

As of yesterday, Stoops had an 80% win rate in 13 years. Don't know what it is now after beating OK St today. They are 9-2 this year and have only lost one conference game. He may not be gettable, but at 52 years old, he is far from peaked.

Stoops is a great coach. You are preaching to the choir. What I mean by peaked (probably a bad use of that word) is that a coach like Stoops, Miles, Richt, and Saban are at a place where their effort and return on said effort are maximized yielding great success.

In other words, why would any of those guys change positions? Stoops very well might be in play, but there is a huge part of me that says it is probably more likely that we are being used as a negotiating tool for his contract than he is showing real interest.

Truth be told, if I had to chose between Stoops or Gruden, I go Stoops every Saturday in the fall.
