Here we go again.......

i read an article it actually may have been Fulmer's signing day wrap up and he said that the coaches would take a couple of days off and get started all over again for next years class.

You can go to utsports.com and watch the video of the signing day press conference and Fulmer says they are taking a few days off.

That will help us after Taylors exit from the program. I would argue we lost at least a few recruits with Trooper's departure.

So did you gather that he is taking a few days off and hitting it hard or just taking a few days off?

This is probably the same kind of thinking that landed us at number 36 on the recruiting rankings this year.

Two days after signing day is too early to worry and say the sky is falling. Last years class looked to be promising at this point, so lets just calm down.

I read a few lines here and there that they were recruiting for next year WHILE recruiting for this year.

LIVol, Unless I'm mistaken, UT still hosts a football camp for HS players. They've actually picked up commits during or shortly after camp in the last two classes.

There are three 5* DTs in Rivals early Top 100 for 2009. 2 of them are already committed and the 3rd is from Texas with UF being the only SEC school on his list. There are seven 4* DTs listed in the Top 100 and 2 of them are already committed.

There will be more added to that list and maybe some dropped. Kids that make early commits sometimes change when they start being exposed to others taking all the great trips.

Of all the things I'm worried about, UT not looking forward in the recruiting process isn't one of them. According to Rivals, they're recruiting a kid from Maryland. Maybe the same area as Langley.

I suspect that the coaches already have a much better idea of which guys are worthy targets than the recruiting svcs.

BTW, they picked the right targets this year. IMO, if not for the discipline problems over the last 4 weeks, UT lands a couple more of the guys they were after. Maybe guys like Thompson and Page. When the choice is close it doesn't take much to tip the scale one way or the other.

The real issue is that everyone was calling for Fulmer's head, and that sent a message to players that UT isn't an elite program anymore. Plus Alabama took about half of our in-state top ten, and we couldn't land any highly ranked players out-of-state. This is because 1) Saban is telling everyone how much UT sucks 2)Georgia was 11-2 this year 3)LSU won a Natl. champinship this year and 4) Florida won a Natl. championship last year. Being in a state with little talent and being surrounded by states that either hired Nick Saban or had teams that performed well this year really hurt us.

one of the more ridiculous rationalizations for poor results from CPF that I've ever seen. Wonder if getting shelled by a decent OVC level team in AL jerseys had anything to do with kids from TN thinking Saban would do them better than Fulmer might?

It's too early to worry about the class of 09.

Thats a good way to makes next years class just as bad as this years. Its NEVER too early. Our best classes have always had early big time commitments and getting off to a fast start is very important. They need to get on these kids hard and fast and stay on them. They need to set priorities, especially DT and LB and push them hard.

It is not a rationalization. Don't be so quick to criticize. I never said whether calling for his head was just or not. (It certianly wasn't uncalled for). I didn't indicate whether I am pro or anti-Fulmer. You cannot deny that high school players look for stability when they sign, and Tennessee is not a stable program as far as the head coach goes. All I said is it has a negative effect on recruiting. Yeah so does getting whooped by Bama, but I didn't say that it didn't have an effect either.

You said THE REAL ISSUE was the lack of Fulmer support.

Additionally, if you think that any recruit believes stability is the name of the game with Saban, discussion over.

Yes as a fanbase it's too early to start worrying about the class.

Yes, the real issue of this recruiting class, not the state of the program. That is why I posted that in the recruiting section.

P.S. (I think Saban's job is safer than Fulmer's at this point. He has a 24 million dollar contract to prove it).

I don't understand the first piece. I will say that recruiting is tied to on field results and recruits' belief in the staff. That's officially a problem at UT today.

when has a safe job kept saban put?
