Herniated disc treatments, pain management, etc...

Wife is having surgery for 2 herniated discs tomorrow. The MRI showed that one was basically completely out and compressing the nerve root. She wanted to do surgery as a last resort but she was getting a dropped foot and we were afraid she would do permanent damage. Getting a microdiscectomy with a hemilaminectomy in the morning. 4 to 6 week recovery. Supposed to go to Disney in 3.5 weeks and the surgeon said if she is doing good he would release her to go.

I had the same issue. Had the same surgery. Best decision I ever made

Spinal surgery has come a long, long ways. They can now operate thought a tiny 1 inch or so incision using a microscope. It’s still surgery and all surgery has complications but it’s certainly not as scary as some make it out to be.

I agree with this. To me surgery is a no brainer vs living with terrible pain the rest of your life.

Yes there are many ways to fix things. But a lot of ortho doctors say they can fix back and neck issues, but I deplore anyone seeking a doctor to please seek out a good neurologists. There is so much more at stake and you deserve the best doctor to evaluate. Something else that I have just started doing is some yoga to increase the my flexibility and to help with the constant rigid neck and back muscles due to the nerve damage that I have. It is helping.

thanks all, it has been 3 weeks now and the pain is still there but definitely a nuisance I'm living with rather than debilitating. I am looking into an inversion table right now to get some regular use out of and see if that can help. I did an acupuncture treatment but they are telling me that I would need about 8 to feel relief then weekly after that. At $100 a pop that isn't feasible right now.

I’ve ruptured two discs, same two. My family member handles medical malpractice litigation. At no point was surgery ever a viable option.

It was at this time that home run slugger Luis Gonzalez had same
Injury. Heard him in an interview talking about Pilates. I asked my Doctor about it. He gave me Flexoril and Lortabs, prescribed rehab. Said I’d never run or lift again, and I may have nerve damage. BS.

The Pilates was awesome. Also. Started walking then hiking then running. Pushups sit-ups turned into deadlifts and squats then lifting again.

You’ve got to suck up the ego. Be open to different things. Walk,
Drink water, eat ibuprofen, stretch, Pilates. You’re good.

Btw **** a bunch of prescription pills.
