“Man, imagine going over to a foreign country and playing a game for the first time that you’ve never played," said Heupel after Tennessee's win. "Did I anticipate it? No, but do I understand it? Yeah. He’s gonna be a really good player, though. Some of what you saw late from him is what we’ve seen all training camp, so, we believe he’ll continue to get better."

Ross' first punt netted just 17 yards. His third punt went for only 27 yards. The former Australian Rules Football player eventually settled in -- his final punt went for 50 yards -- but his rough start was enough for a reporter to ask Heupel about Ross after the game.

Good on Heupel not to call him Out. I WILL…HE SUCKED!

same for whomever kicked off…SUCKED, too.

BOTH should be running the steps at Neyland till their guts are hanging out.

now…bring on the new age pansies that will be triggered by the above…

Special Teams got, at best, a D- on Saturday. Good job on coach for talking up his guys and giving them the benefit of the doubt.

He kicked with both legs. That is something special whether or not you punt-it-thru-the-endzone traditionalists acknowledge it or not. And from what I've heard, he is very fast and has a pretty good arm.

I'm thinking returns from his points are not going to be all that great because the cheetahs have time to get to the Fox.

On the kickoffs anyway I think there was some speculation that those kicks to the corners may have been tried on purpose. On his other kicks the kicker had no problem crushing it through the back of the end zone

Heupel addressed that in the presser and denied that. He said they were "hooked the same way it happens in golf."

In todays Presser CJH said “he hooked both of them”…”like (Austin Price’s) your golf shot”…who asked whether those were “aimed towards the corner”

so…no…he SUCKED kicking 2 out of bounds.

Pansie here, I'll take Heupel's coaching knowledge over Monday (literally) morning coaches.

Thank goodness they have another tune up game before they go to the swamp. Plenty to improve on.

In both their defense, there was a lot of pressure for their first game and they did get better as the game went on.

Personally, I think all these issues, errors, and penalties will help this team learn how to focus better. I guarantee they all got an earful during film study.

I was there, at half time he was punting the ball 55 plus yds with either foot. Taking one step to the right or left. They have to stop telling him to punt on the run!!!!
The rugby style punt is harder to field, tends to bounce downfield more, is easier to run a fake from, and allows the coverage additional time to get downfield.

They aren't going to tell him to punt from a standstill, mate.

DID you read absolutely nothing that Heupel said? It is the very first time he has punted in a game in a foreign country, Yes, his first two punts were really bad. By the end of the game he was booming 50 yard punts. FIRST GAME EVER in a game that really was never going to be in question. I have never seen such a group of "Fans" that insist on denigrating the players on the team with things don't go right, but do not acknowledge when they do. If he is doing that by Florida, then make a judgement. They tried the two directional kickoffs, yeah he was trying to pin the ball against the pylon on either side. That is done to try and get the return man to catch the ball in a bad position. Didn't do it well, so they went back to having him boom it out of the endzone. Actually watch what goes on before you show your ignorance. And by the way , I aint even close to New Age, just hate fans like you can be.

He played Australian Rules Football. Watch ot sometimes and you will see that is how they kick. They will kick it "Rugby Style" while running absolutely wide open. It was a case of the nerves that got him early.

Please tell me one place kicker that has never had a kickoff go out of bounds. You are a real piece of work.

Welp, Heupel isn’t making them run steps until their guts are hanging out so by your logic he must be a new age pansy.

If you tried your approach with a real football team, your team would quit on you during the season and then hit the portal as soon as possible.

Our kicker should get plenty of game experience this weekend but sadly our punter probably won't. His next real live game action will likely be in Gainesville.

Well good. From what I saw in the game, he got rid of the nerves after the first two bad punts. He decided to switch feet and boomed one. The coaching staff aren't worried about him.
