Charlie Strong has tremendous connections into Miami. If he were head coach at UF, we'd have top 3 recruiting classes on a routine basis. Its why I was saying over and over on the main board at the time, screw Gruden, you need to make the Charlie Strong deal.

Had you done that, UT would be within a year of running roughshod over the SECe.

Coach Temper would do himself well if he did depart from Florida quite possibly to keep a job provided Brown leaves. Fulmer I mean Brown(tenure) has turned into Fulmer in a way. The Florida Gators will not put up with him.

The gestalt between Mack Brown and Texas with Fulmer at UT is pretty similar. Same with Bowden at FSU. Its a what have you done for me lately kind of profession.

I'm not following you with your comment as to UF, though.

I don't see anyway he'd leave. Boom's an SEC guy, raised in Gainesville and had a scholarship to UF until he tore his knee up his SR year. He's at one of the top 5 jobs in CFB which happens to be his "dream job" in his hometown.

Say what?

People who discount this are oblivious or want to be oblivious to the world we live in. I managed a youth center for a summer camp one summer and was second in line behind the facility manager. Her job was yr round mine was on a summer basis when kids were out of school. It catered to the black population in our community and the HS volunteers we had were all black, I was the only white working/attending this camp. Those kids listened to 16 yr old volunteers twice as much as they did to me, a person actually in an authoritative position, because I was white. I expressed that concern going into the position and the manager said I don't see it being a problem, well it was. A lot of young blacks "relate" better to other blacks. Right or wrong it happens everywhere in a multitude of situations.

Difference is with Texas, Mack Brown is still fairly popular with the school and the money men down there. I think the story on Dodds retiring broke early when it shouldn't have and Texas went into denial mode automatically. Brown can and probably would replace him as AD if he was to retire.

With Fulmer and Bowden, they are both still popular with the schools and the States they were coaching in, but when dismissed just backed off into the distance.

I think that is incorrect. And that isn't a huge knock on Strong.

I agree. And mainly because our lack of depth right now. When Kiffin took over the program in 2009 talent wise we were in a good place. Kiffin lied and hammered home that our program was in a bad place so a 7-6 season under him his first year would be acceptable. Goes to show how much Dooley let us slide.

I think I recall Strong having his feelings hurt by Florida for not giving him a serious look at HC in earlier coaching searches.

Jerry Jones is buying Texas and Jimmy Johnson will be the coach. Book it!

As a man who worked in sales for a pretty good portion of my life, you are indeed correct. It sounds racist to say, but its really not, its more behavioral science than anything. Like goes with like. If I were in a run down mostly black or latino community working, I would bring a team with me made just for those kinds of people. If I were in a high end million dollar home with nothing but old white people and money, I would bring a team made just for those kinds of people. It's as much a fear of the unknown as it is anything. People trust those of their own race more than others, it makes a lot of sense if you really think about it also.

How does UT hiring Strong make these next couple years any different? UT still has no depth and Butch is recruiting incredibly well. Like dbake said, not a knock on Strong, UT is just in bad shape right now.
