ESPN, or at least one of their staff writers, now have Hendon in the #1 spot in the Heisman race. Here is the ranking--I left in the write-ups on Hendon and Bryce Young:

Heisman Five:

1. Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker

Late in 2020, Hooker was benched at Virginia Tech and essentially shown the door. Since then, he's blossomed into one of the most prolific QBs in the country, throwing for 385 yards and five touchdowns on Saturday, and is now deserving of his spot atop the Heisman rankings.

2. Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud

3. Alabama QB Bryce Young

It's almost impossible to overstate just how good Young is, and how much he means to Alabama. But even in a game in which he threw for 455 yards and led the Tide back from down 18, he wasn't the most impressive QB on the field.

4. USC QB Caleb Williams

5. UCLA QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson

He’s had a year. We have had a year. May the best team win! GBO!

BY had a Heisman level performance for Bama and being the incumbent he will be tough to knock off. Gotta give the edge to Hooker based on the W being the tie-break. I think it comes down to Stroud and Hooker at the end of the year.

Yeah, the problem I see is that the southern votes will be split between BY and HH. All the midwest media will of course vote for the guy from Ohio State.

As a Niner fan, BY reminds me of Russell Wilson. Can't seem to get him on the ground, and he's always got his eyes down field for that broken play bomb.

Hendon now with second best odds. Do think CJ Stroud will have to have one really bad game or get injured for Hendon to win it but still so proud of this kid.

Banks will make full use of one week to game-plan the stoppage of the mildkats' O.

I will give BY credit though, the kid has an incredible pocket awareness. We brought pressure at him all night, and he was only sacked one time. The kid has talent.

But I still would pick Hendon every time. Dude is a leader and an all around great guy.

I was very, very impressed with BY. Hell of a qb.

I'm so proud to have Hooker representing our university. He's humble, dignified, fearless, and faithful. UT is due for a Heisman, and no one could be more deserving than Hooker.

I never thought I would say this about a Bama quarterback, but my hat's off to him. He played a hell of a game and carried that team on his back (and without playing the primadonna). Without Young, it would have been a UT rout.

As 17Vols wrote, though, the numbers don't lie: Hooker won the battle of premier quarterbacks.
