Highest-Rated DB in the SEC

Jermod McCoy and Keenan Pili are the biggest reasons our Defense is better this season. We didn’t have a CB playing anywhere near McCoy’s level, or a LB at Pili’s level last year (after Pili was injured early).

Hope they can stay healthy.🙏

You could see McCoy was a skilled pass defender from his OSU Beaver highlights. Turns out he’s a willing/capable tackler too. Yeah, he’ll get beat on some passes in upcoming games. Every Pro Bowl CB does. But, he’s a good one!

Arion Carter is also really good. He makes some mistakes but the talent is obvious. I also like Rickey Gibson at the other corner spot. He's not as good as McCoy but will be a NFL corner as well.

His acknowledgment has nothing to do with what's to come. It's about what has been. You are attaching a future event to an accomplishment of games so far. Why not just celebrate the young man for the work so far?
Who said anything about world beaters???

Live and appreciate the moment. The future will take care of itself.
That is nearly impossible for some that post on here. Sad from a fellow former band member.

Jermod isn’t just rated as the best cornerback on the Tennessee defense but also conference-wide across the SEC. McCoy has an 82.8 pass coverage grade and a 66.3 run coverage grade for the Vols on PFF. He has also been rated as an 81.6 overall grade which is good enough for the best in the SEC with a minimum of 40 played snaps.

He has been amazing, can actually Tackle as well as cover. Imagine if we didn't lose Jourdan Thomas preseason; what a back end!!

I’ve been thinking about that.
Boo Carter has been solid at STAR. Harrison didn’t play last game but he’s been sound so far as well.

Both are CB/NB/S type players where is Thomas is a STAR/S type body.

I think we may have gotten better there with the injury. We’re just faster on defense with those guys at STAR

Gibson will get “faster” as the season goes by. I will say eventually both will make mistakes and get some grief, it’s just what young players do.

Depth is where Thomas' injury hurt most. You can't have too many DB's especially if you play some nickle.

Could just be the hair but Gibson reminds me of Jonathan Wade.

Welcome to the refined air. Not a problem to question a bad play or a bad decision, but the inability to enjoy success at all is beyond me.

Regardless of who he has covered so far...
it indicates that his coverage technique was elite, his tackling technique was elite, his angles of pursuit (if he had any such situations) were elite, he didn't misread any plays or route combinations, and he didn't blow any assignments.

If "haven't played anyone yet" is a factor, then why aren't there 20 other DBs rated as high as McCoy?

...and why aren't DBs who have played better teams not rated higher than McCoy?
