Reggie F’n Nelson is the best overall safety I’ve seen at FL. He literally could cover the free and strong safety positions at the same time.

Nothing against the ND kid though.

Outside of the Franklin tenure, Vandy has been beyond awful for about 80 years. Their name is synonymous with being a perennial cellar-dweller.

Having lived in the Nashville area my whole life, I’ve always wanted to see VU do well outside of playing against the Vols.

After the loss on Saturday, I can’t think of any reason why Vandy should continue playing football at the SEC level. They barely belong in the FBS, much less the SEC. The vast majority of attendees at football games (what few that show up) are opposing fans.

They should drop football and only be an SEC member for non-football sports. Vandy baseball is the only thing I see anyone being even moderately excited about in the Nashville area. They could receive a much smaller fraction of SEC revenue and probably be satisfied with that by not having the huge expenses of football.

From what I’ve also read, Vanderbilt is hurting for land to develop the rest of their campus. That out-dated eyesore of a stadium takes up a lot of real estate.

Vanderbilt dropping football allows for another quality program to be added in expansion, too.

I’ve never understood why Vandy makes some of the hires. Why have they never hired an air raid guy or a triple option guy? They’ve hired two defensive guys and it’s never made sense

Ultimately, I think it boils down to an institution that views college athletics as something of a sideshow/distraction from the true mission of the institution. Every act they take flows down from that mindset.

IMO they aren't even really trying and do not really care if they are good or not. So they don't think outside the box and go "Ooh, we're outmanned and out-resourced, so we need to hire someone with an unusual scheme to account for that." They just don't care enough to even think about it, so they make a much easier hire by just getting an alum who was an assistant at another elite educational institution.

I think they consider athletic department decisions like that to be relatively insignificant and trivial, like walking down the aisle at the grocery store and deciding what brand of napkins you want or something like that.

The quote was that Vandy was a National power in other sports. “Pretty strong” does not make you a national power. By the way, Vandy was not in the Top 25 in men’s or women’s tennis in 2021.
