The liberals want to conduct all of our foreign policy within the arena of the UN anyway.
I think the UN is the perfect forum. Very clear thinking decision making body as attested by generally having the perfect chair country for its committees.

I agree 100%, BPV. :) I can't argue w/ the UN's results. The list of their successes is astounding: Somalia... Rwanda... Darfur... the Congo... Myanmar... ethnic cleansing in the Balkans... the Iranian nuclear program...

just a thought here, correct me if I'm wrong in thinking this, but one of Hillary's core constituencies is in inner city urban areas. You'd think that in an effort to appeal to a demographic group that she's losing to Obama, a word like "pimpin'", regardless of the context, would have a level of appeal.

The Balkans was a NATO thing if you are talking about the Albanians.

The US helped Iran start it's nuclear program almost 60 years ago.

At least the UN is attempting to do something about Darfur.

All that being said, I am no UN apologist, they have sat around with their thumbs up their asses on far too many occasions.

But with that being said, the United States government is certainly guilty of the same thing.

Lastly, every other government on the planet is guilty of thumb sodomy as well.

The fact that China and Saudi Arabia have been on the Human Rights Council is reason enough to call for a major overhaul of the structure and practices of the UN.

Not to mention the fact that they are anti-semitic.

I was referring to all of the events surrounding the disintegration of Yugoslavia. You are correct. NATO was a major player here.

At least the UN is attempting to do something about Darfur.

In all of these occurences of genocide/ethnic cleansing/etc., not everyone cares about what is going on. As a result, we get foot-dragging and a response that is often insufficient for the situation. Sadly, Darfur...to this point...is turning out no different.

The US helped Iran start it's nuclear program almost 60 years ago.

I'm only referring to the present situation here.

All that being said, I am no UN apologist, they have sat around with their thumbs up their asses on far too many occasions.

Sadly, the UN in practice cannot live up the virtuous ideal for which it was created. Much of that is due to the realities of global politics. I wish all of the things on my list could be genuine successes.

But with that being said, the United States government is certainly guilty of the same thing.

I make no claims on being perfect...for myself or for my country.

But I get where you're coming from, emain. :hi:
