Looking for recommendations. I am playing Harbour Town on Tuesday. There is a thread about it buried somewhere.

What I want recommendations on is the lower tier golf courses in Hilton Head. I will have about $80 to spend on golf after my "big" round. I had considered Arthur Hills or Hilton Head National, both are in the $80 range for the times I was looking at.

I think I have decided to play 2 other times at courses in the $30-40 range. What are some courses you would recommend in Hilton Head that aren't $80+ courses?

GolfNow has times at Rose Hill, Lady's Island, and Sanctuary Golf Cat Island....are any of these worthwhile?

All 3 of those courses are a roll of the dice as far as course conditions. You might want to look in Bluffton at places like Old South, Island West and Pinecrest.

Also, check and see if they happen to be running a deal at Eagle Pointe and Crescent Pointe. They are both very good courses and you can sometimes play both for $99.

Call ahead I would almost bet at least 1 has punched greens.

The more I think about it, Pinecrest may be your best option. You'll probably have to play it in the afternoon to get a rate near $40, but all things considered it's not a bad track. It's about a 20 minute drive back toward I-95 from Hilton Head.

How far is Bluffton from Hilton Head? Sorry, this is my first trip to HH.

"Bluffton" pretty much refers to anything between I-95 and the bridge to Hilton Head. It's about a 15 mile stretch of US 278. Pinecrest, Island West and Rose Hill are the furthest course from Hilton Head at about 20-25 minutes. Old South is the closest right across the bridge.

Thanks for the Pinecrest recommendation. They have the birthday club. I will be able to play it one week exactly after my birthday for cart fee only. Coupon printed already. I will have to call to see exactly what it will cost as I can't find their rates broke down to greens fee and cart fee on their website.

I've played there a number of times since it's affiliated with my home course. The conditions got a little spotty a couple of years ago, but it's generally pretty good; especially considering what you are paying.

. . . and besides, who cares what Pinecrest looks like. You're playing Harbor Town 2 days after the Heritage. I'm headed down there tomorrow to catch the first 2 rounds myself.

Agree with the Pinecrest recommendation. I'm here with my grandparents for the week and I'm getting a round in tomorrow.

Have fun watching the Heritage. I thought about trying to catch a round this weekend but 3 rounds of golf plus a day at a golf tournament wouldn't go over too well during a family vacation :)

Hilton Head is a great place for golf. Harbor Town is kind of pricey.....about $200 for 18 with a cart and fore caddy.

If you play Harbor Town for $200 with a forecaddie, you just got a discount. I actually like the other 2 Sea Pines courses as much as Harbor Town.

what's the tee time? for that price it has to be the heat of the day.
It is just before 8am. They have a deal that up to a week before or after your birthday that you get a round with free greens fees and only pay cart fee plus tax. I will be playing exactly one week after my birthday.

Pretty sweet deal.

How bad could the heat or the day be in April?

i don't know, i've never been in April, but everytime i've been it's one of two temps...cool or hell.

i couldn't figure out another way for a 16 dollar round.

I played one of the lesser courses on HHI a few years back and saw something I'd never seen before: two holes shared one massive green.

I'm not well traveled in golf courses, so maybe this is common. I thought it was bizarre when I saw it.

Can't remember which one it was though.
