Hoke or Rich Rod to Maryland?

If Harbaugh goes to the NFL and turns down Michigan, then Brady Hoke is next, and Michigan fans would like the hire. Is he Harbaugh? No. But UM fans will be perfectly happy with him.

Also, Michigan is in a win-win situation. They can keep Rodriguez one more year and not worry about Hoke or Harbaugh going anywhere, and see if Rich-Rod is the guy. Even if Harbaugh takes the 49ers job, Hoke is going to have a big year for SDSU again, so that will just improve his resume. To me, Michigan is in a perfect situation.

Harbaugh can pick any job out there. He's not going to pick Michigan just because he's an alum.
Correct. He may pick it because it's a damn good job and because he played at Michigan and probably feels at least some connection to the school.

I think Harbaugh eventually ends up in the NFL, but seeing him take the Michigan job wouldn't stun me. As far as college jobs go, I certainly wouldn't say it's the best, but it's one of the top ones out there, and if Rich Rod is gone, it will probably be the best available.

If Michigan fires Rich Rod, the next coach is gonna have 2 to 3 years of struggles due to personnel.

Rich Rod has been running a spread offense without spread offense guys. Now he has 3 years of recruiting that type of player, his offense has improved.

The next guy Michigan hires will a "Michigan man" and wanna play smashmouth. Which means he'll have the same problem Rich Rod had. Wrong personnel for the scheme they plan to run.

I think Brady Hoke is a heckuva coach though.

The turnaround won't be as difficult as it was for Rich Rod. Everyone bailed on Michigan when he got there. I don't think they see those kind of problems again.

I think Harbaugh would kill it there.

It might take a year or two, but nothing like with Rich-Rod.

Agreed. If he can inherit a 1-11 Stanford team and take them to 11-1 in 4 seasons, I'm confident he can inherit a 7-5 Michigan team and win conference titles before his first class graduates.
