Holly Warlick should step down after this season

This team needs to develop some chemistry. You forget that they lost three senior starters and have several new components. It's going to take some time, but they will get there. You are also neglecting the fact that they had one day to prepare for this game against a solid top ten opponent. This loss was disappointing, but I think the entire team will be better for it because they will learn from it. It wasn't a bad loss at all, and it's certainly not all on coaching.[/QUOTE

The truth is the next few games will tell if we have learned anything from this loss. I think Diamond is trying to be a leader. You do not have to be a senior to be a team leader. We have issues on offense that need to be cured. Many of them are the same issues we have had for the last 4 years. No matter how good the defense is, we must find a consistent offense. It is obvious that teams will have no respect for our outside shooting, so we will see zone after zone.

That road trip will tell us alot about this team.

Diamond has to become the leader of this team if we want to compete for final fours and she has to shoot the ball well, be efficient scorer, she has to shoot 41% or higher, 44% would be ideal, if she wants to be like Diana Taurasi ( who shot over 46% for her career at Uconn, 39% from the 3).

Ignore button works great.

What has to happen in the East Tenn State game for you to like the progress of the team Ivy?

Better passing and making shots. The players are open, but their shots aren't falling as they should be. Some players (Cooper, especially) need to play with more control, but there's a freshman learning curve that she's on. She will get there. ETSU should give the team some breathing room while still affording them the opportunity to work on problem areas. The same goes for VA Tech (perhaps even more so). ETSU was semi-decent last year and nearly made the NCAA tournament; it should still be an easy win.

I have to admit it's difficult to be as enthusiastic about UT women's basketball as it was under the leadership of Pat Summitt. I don't know if the fall off is 100% Holly's fault, but she doesn't seem to be anywhere near the type of coach who can consistently take a team to the Final Four. For years and years and years, the preeminent beacon of women's college basketball was Pat Head Summitt. That's the major reason the best of the best came to Tennessee to play for the Vols during her tenure. Holly's inner light is not bright enough for her to ever become that sort of beacon, nor can we expect her to regularly reach the summit in these times when the competition has grown much stiffer. I don't expect Holly's going to be our coach that much longer. Not when there are better, more dynamic options available.

There is no valid reason to replace Holly at this point, not even close.

I agree we need a leader who is not afraid to tell players when we are playing half/ass. They are a coach on the court. Quite frankly, this team is void of that leader. Great teams have that, no matter the level. It is obvious on most teams.

Yeah, that's to be expected of Cooper, just thought she was a lil more polished. She would embrace the moment better. Right now the big stage is winning but like you said, she is a freshman.

I'm looking for us getting to the rim, getting to the basket, if our guards are in attack mode, this are the perfect games to work on penetrating gaps with a purpose, and if our posts are active in the paint.

Passing, ball fake, shot fakes, just more fundamentally sound basketball.

As Diamond become the alpha female on the court, she will become alpha female of the team.

Now she has to get in game shape, and make everyone else on her team better, another thing a great leader does.

They just gave Holly another year and a bonus ... No way is she leaving. BUT when the guards mid range game is absolutely sub par ... you cant even make consistent short range shots ...mainly Jordan and Jasmine have been horrible. Where was Meme in the second half??? Look when your coach can barely articulate herself at a press conference what makes you think she can do it with her players? I just don't see her getting in those players faces and holding them accountable the way I use to see Pat do it ... Now I don't how it is handled in practice but game time is when you push your players and I just don't see it .. but when you try to be too much of a friend and not a leader on the sideline you will be out coached every time...

After watching the UTC game in Chattanooga last year I went away thinking she can't coach period.

Do you have first-hand knowledge, or are you speculating? Unless you are in the huddle, you don't know what she tells the players or how she speaks to them. The problem with this team is NOT coaching; that's just a simple excuse for simpleminded people who don't like Holly or who feel the need to jump on the hysteria-infused drama bandwagon with the other sheep who won't admit that the landscape of women's basketball has changed. The main problem at this point is team chemistry and team leadership, coupled with shooting woes. By SEC play, this team will be dangerous.

Ok, I just got to watch the game, admittedly my first this season, which is rare - I usually see them all.

This team much like every Warlick coached team does not value each possession. They don't play as a cohesive unit but more as a bunch of individuals. She sits back and lets them get away with poor effort and no focus.

Before dementia affected Pat, she would've been up in players and officials faces with that glare and a few choice words...not Holly.

And let's not pin this all on Holly. Dean Lockwood is the absolute worst excuse for a post coach I've seen in my life. He coached Candace Parker which is the only thing worth 2 cents on his resume, and let's be honest...a trained monkey could coach her...nothing to teach. Our post play post Candace has been atrocious.

To keep the Lady Vol tradition going, Dave Hart needs to do some cleaning of that program and bring in a coach with some fire that can recruit. Pull out the purse to get a proven HEAD coach, not some holdover from the Summit era...

I think we will get better year after year. I think that's her progression, she has til the class of Deshield and Russell leaves, two final fours or 1 Championship. If not, then she gets a couple of more years, we have to recruit better basketball players. None of her guards after all that playing time, has made the leap to All American or an all SEC performer and that's our problem.

The future looks bright. Let's go Lady Vols. I back Pat and roll with Holly!

What kind of rock have you been hiding under? Do you not watch the games? This is 2015, and coaches should be accountable for the product they put on the court. Yes we should recruit better players, which is part of the problem, but players should be developed by their coach... And that ain't happening either.

I back Pat too, but she and Holly are not a package deal...

LIke I sd I don't know what goes on at practice or even the huddle ... but something has to give!! I didn't say get rid of her but something needs to change... I know it's early in the season but something needs to be done .. when your Center is getting pushed around in the paint .. looks timid throughout the game ... as a coach you should recognize this and CHANGE SOMETHING ...That wasn't done .. pull her out sit her down ... SOMETHING ...I don't doubt they will get it together... some teams have their lineups down by now... their rotations solid.

What, exactly, was Tea giving us?

poor passing, poor shot selection and missed some easy ones and wasn't very good on defense, other than that, she had a good game

and yes,I know the potential is sky high for her and that she needs a lot of playing time

but CHW should be pulling her out when it is going badly for Cooper and somebody be in her ear during the game, telling her what she is doing wrong and why she won't get more playing time, till she corrects these mistakes

I should have said freshmen mistakes :) she will be a great player later in this season, but it is tough going right now

Holly is in an absolute no win situation. A coach at any other school with an 85% win rate would be praised. Here, she loses a game to a top ten team in the nation and she needs to be burned at the stake.

It's not that we lost to a top 10 team. Have you watched the games? We have no offense, almost no defense, half the time the players look lost and have no clue what they are supposed to be doing. That is poor coaching. Plain and simple, she cannot coach.

Pat used to spank him, no matter where he went. I think some coaches have other coaches numbers. Jim is not the right coach for the Lady Vols. Holly is the right coach. The product on the court has to get better tho. lol

You are delusional if you think Holly is the right coach for this team.

I agree. They seem to be asking a bit too much too soon. In the grand scheme, these pre-conference games are not that crucial but the LVs need some good wins for seeding purposes. I would love to see CHW move Carter into the starting PG role and work Cooper in more gradually. She is just making too many mistakes.

I don't agree with your assessment of CHW

but what makes you think that Bama Dave even cares one bit about the Lady Vols ?

he backed into hiring CBJ,which is good and it was a stroke of luck that CRB was available for the mens basketball program, his prior hire made it one season, with his known problems, you would think that Hart would have took that into consideration before he made him a Vol

to me it looks like Bama Dave really doesn't care much about any Womens program or there traditions and I don't think that will change any while he is the AD

You're probably right, but that has to be the strategy with all of the players not producing. Te'a is a NATURAL PG that has played up tempo ball/dribble drive BB since middle school. Her style was to 'set the table' for others first. She appears to be thinking (not reacting) every possession. Most of the outside shots are put up after the shot clock exhausted to under ten secs. No choice but to jack up a bad shot. You have to play to players strengths. Why no dribble drive offensive sets? Was the staff aware of the kids playing style pre-recruitment?

Holly is in her third season and by far her most talented team and her continued presence has appeared to have a substantial detrimental effect on the program.

This is her 4th season. She's terrible. Been saying it for awhile now. Geno A would destroy this team with HW at the helm. Muffet McGraw would do the same. LVols BB is dying slowly.

Depends. Dave is looking for a contract extension right now. Who are the voices of support at UT for that extension? Who are the voices of opposition at UT regarding his tenure? Are Lady Vol basketball supporters voicing their opinions? Are they in opposition?

Those are important questions to ask because I think its pretty obvious Dave Hart has a history of paybacks a mile long. If he survives with less than universal support in the athletic department and the LV supporters are loudly on record against him I can definitely see him exacting some revenge as his last act--with Holly Warlick as collateral damage.

piss on Geno and I hope some splatters on Muffys shoes while it is happening, that is what I think of hearing about them all the time :)

CHWs record and Tournament play would be a lot different with some healthy teams,my one big hope for this year is that they can stay fairly healthy for a change, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards this year either

DeShields looks gimpy at times

Dunbar didn't play any,I'm not sure if that is injury related or not

Nared has been out with a broke bone in her hand and is missing valuable early playing time

Jones went down hard again and had to leave the game, hopefully not another concussion

this is one of the reasons that I wished CHW would carry a couple of project players, you never know when somebody will need to step up and play some minutes in a game
