home attendance in a free fall

I am a season ticket holder for Missouri Women's basketball. They have never had a big attendance. The main reason is the team's performance and the like of top players. They have a very hard time keeping home 5 star talent at home, except for Sophia Cunningham. In addition, they raised the ticket price and less people attend. In the case of UCONN, look at their conference where they beat every team by 51 points. The other good team in the conference, UCF, can't stay within 30 points of UCONN. Fans want to see real competition, even the home team. Why spend money and attend games when you know the outcome? To be fair, the women's game is much harder to sell than the men's game. I think that the average fan is not willing to pay a lot of money to see even the best women's teams play as opposed to an average men's basketball team play. In reality, the most WBB talent is concentrated among the top 15 teams with the most talent on the top 5 to top 10 teams. I also believe that women must play at an elite level or the fans lose interest. I think that Tennessee is in that situation. The once high expectations of the Lady Vols is dwelling with the team's performance, or lack thereof.

The Lady Vols basketball team will have the second highest attendance in the SEC, and likely in the nation.

But please continue to Denounce the Lady Vols basketball program if you must.

Are you serious? We should never be falling below the University of South Carolina in terms of attendance at our 21,000-seat arena with our legacy program. The simple fact that we're being outclassed on the court and in the stands is utterly shameful, and Holly needs to go if the Lady Vols don't make it to Dallas this year.

SC has led WCBB in attendance for the last two years and that looks to continue at least through this season.

That speaks wonders for Dawn Staley for how she was able to stir up interest in a team that no one cared for in a pretty short period of time...and that's with only 1 FF appearance.

I think the bigger challenge that *any* coach here would have to deal with is engaging a younger fan base, as the current one is aging. Dawn did a tremendous job of this at South Carolina.

Winning games and having a more "fun to watch" offense help, but I think there's a lot more to it than that.

This is why I am fighting so hard to be considered for a spot in this org.... I am fresh off a 9-year run in the AAU GA area-circuit (yrs ago) and many of the age-group I coached last in ATL are now in the age that is being recruited. (From both, in my org and the orgs we played). Many come out of the GA area.

With this fact, and the fact that I am up on many of the newer practice drills and skills taught in this environment and my offense is one of continuity of movement and multi-spot points of attack in offense,,,, this makes me uniquely qualified to bring something new to the table. Past NCAA certification makes it easy for me to be re-certified as an NCAA coach.

I'm aware that they've lead the NCAA in attendance. That has nothing to do with us, The University of Tennessee, inexcusably falling behind them in terms of attendance. Tennessee should be the gold standard for WCBB throughout the nation, yet we're playing second fiddle to a veritable junior college with no history.

Staley has done an outstanding job building the fanbase at SC. That said, if the team falls short of the final again this year, I'm thinking SC fans could begin to grumble -- and they'd have a point.

Was it really that high. Looked like a lot of empty seats in the lower sections. If they win they will come. Simple as that.

Avg. home attendance per game
2009-10: 12,254
2010-11: 12,537
2011-12: 14,414
2012-13: 11,390 (Holly's 1st year as HC)
2013-14: 11,038
2014-15: 10,375
2015-16: 10,412
2016-17: 8,607 (9 games)

Our lowest home attendance last season was 8,858 vs Penn State; we've already dipped below 8,000 three times this year. Disturbing to see that we drew more fans for the Albany game last year (9,806) than the Baylor game this year (9,244).

I attended games the last 2 seasons but at the end of each season was told those games were meaningless. NCAA games are the only ones that count. Have not been back waiting for NCAA seeding.

Gule, I don't see enough SC games, so I can't figure out K Davis. What are your thoughts?

It's all my fault....:naughty:

Good to see you back to your normal self, Darth. But you did make a 24 hour turn around, as promised:p. After that big dish of crow, I was afraid you would be out of sorts for a while. Or when you're out of sorts, is that in sorts for most? So in sorts would be the usual out of sorts? :)

Go Lady Vols!

I don't think the move to make Fulmer the AD is going to help get rid of Holly. It will be about the same as it is now. If she can have a winning season no matter double digit losses think her job would be secure with him.
