Thanks for the help! After shopping around, it's looking like a week at the Sandals resort in Grenada stole the Mrs. heart and will be the best bang for our buck. Came highly recommended from the travel agent, so I think that'll be the place! This is my first Carribean trip, so I appreciate all the comments of worry free trips from you all.

Haha and yes regarding football season-- my officially statement is its okay to miss a game because the wedding will be the best day of my life (but off the record, I'm praying for a miracle day-game schedule for the Oklahoma game. But I'm afraid I'll have to tape this one, fellas).

We celebrate our 10 year anniversary on Sept 3. We missed one opening game, and have been able to celebrate our anniversary and football starting back ever since. It's pretty awesome when a game falls on our anniversary. :)

Congrats on the big 10! Hopefully, we'll get to celebrate with the Big Orange when we fall on a Saturday too! Alas, Oklahoma game is 6 p.m. eastern. Looks like the best man will have to whisper in my ear what's going on in Knoxville!

Hello VolNation,

My fiancee and I are getting hitched September 12 with a honeymoon to follow the next week. We initially wanted to travel to the Caribbeans (St. Lucia in particular), but have shied away from the idea due to it being hurricane season. We're contemplating some other places, but airfare is making some out of our price range.

My question is this: Has anyone went to the Caribbean during hurricane season and recommend it? We plan to get traveler's insurance and all if we do go there. We also looked at Punta Cana for costs and they haven't been hit in a while. Our budget is about $5,000 for everything. Doesn't have to be the gulf necessarily. Just looking for somewhere: safe (crime wise), tropic, and with a low chance of having the week ruined by bad weather from tropic storms or a 'cane. I'm also willing to pitch any other great spots this world has to offer to the future missus. Any help is much appreciated! :hi:

Not a VFL imo. Missing the Oklahoma game.:)

My husband's niece got married in 2009, the Saturday we played Florida. Two of her uncles were sitting on the row behind us feeding me the updates of the game. Hard to keep quiet that day. Haha.

I've spent many a fall day in a tree in Bucksnort. While the porn shop may help, I'm not sure it was better than our trip to St Lucia.

Just realized I'm probably in a very exclusive group of people who are able to compare Bucksnort, TN to St Lucia.

Nephew said the food in Punta Cana wasn't very good.

Just got back from Punta Cana. The food was terrible. Beautiful area but food was awful. I'm talking horrible. We were eating fruit and bread everyday just to keep from getting sick. People were friendly for the most part. Hotels were a little run down.

Hawaii was beautiful. I would recommend Hawaii above all else. Rent a car and get out and explore. Snorkling along the coast was great. Lots to do here.

Costa Rica was a great place to go as well. The food and drinks on our all-inclusive resort were above average. The area is beautiful. Lots of activities to do. Friendly people.

Oh yeah, we also went on a cruise. Unless you like being trapped in some place, time restrictions, and schedule excursions in advance (not much exploring) I would stay away from cruises. On the flip side, cruises have good food, good drinks, and have a set schedule that you can follow if you aren't the exploring or impulsive type. lol

Went on honeymoon to the Mayan Riviera on the Yucatan Peninsula in October 2005. Three days in hurricane Wilma hit. Pretty miserable. Cancun's airport was shut down, so we wound up catching a taxi in Playa del Carmen to the nearest open airport in Media, which was about 5 hours away. Talked to people who left the resort after us who talked about having to push evacuation vehicles through waist high water with dead animals and other nasties floating by. Bottom line, wouldn't travel to region during hurricane season.

In hindsight, I wish we had to gone to somewhere like Maine or Vermont.

Hawaii is where it's at. I went to Oahu for the first time in January. I want to go back.......

We went to iberostar grand in Punta can a year ago. Definitely prefer the resort to a cruise. We went on a Windstar cruise.
