Hooker in a knee brace?

Once the swelling goes down it feels pretty good. After surgery it didn't take long to get back on your feet either. The doctors know what they're doing
He hadn't had surgery yet when he was at the Vandy game. So it may just be a light tear.

If your quadriceps and hamstrings are sufficiently strong in relation to one another probably does a lot to help stabilize even with damaged ACL. The problem though is a lot of people have quads that are much stronger than their hamstrings. If they do a lot of partial range of motion squat variants like half squats, quarter squats and so on then the hamstrings don’t get recruited much while the quads do. Not suggesting anyone avoid getting their ACL fixed, just some people might be better positioned to continue activity than others. Also stronger and balanced muscle groups probably help to avoid a lot of tears too.

Back in the early 70s I was on a staff and we had a linebacker who played the last half of the season with a torn ACL. We would tape it up...put a brace on him and he'd never miss a defensive snap. He had to get it drained every week to get the swelling out. The orthopedic doctor said he wouldn't hurt it anymore and left it up to him to play and wait until after the season to have surgery. He decided to play.
Early Butch days, Jacob Gilliam started the season at LT, tore his ACL then came back later in the year and played at RT the rest of the year on a torn ACL.

So I hate what happened to him, first and foremost, but how is this man not on crutches? He seems to be walking under his own power and there was a clip I happened to noticed floating on my twitter where he was even dancing a bit after the Vandy game. Props to him!
You can walk, dance, whatever. The support is gone in the inner knee is gone. You could buckle anytime. These movements tend to tear cartilage around knee. I would not recommend jumping or quick movements.

I have a torn ACL and I only wear a brace if I’m gonna be hiking on uneven terrain. I can play HORSE or PIG with my grandson (he’s 8) but no real basketball. I don’t do tennis, skiing, soccer, etc or anything else that involves changing direction/speed so my Dr didn't recommend surgery at my age (65). My Dr said that based on lack of cartilage I’ll probably just do a knee replacement if it becomes an issue. I have no idea when I tore mine but that knee (left) has always given me problems going back to my teenage years playing basketball.

Tore mine…knee brace works as long as you are not twisting or turning on it. Honestly the hardest thing for me was walking down stairs.

I was running several miles or more a couple of days a week after one of my ACL tears. It was a lateral move that sent me hard to the dancefloor in front of all my friends and strangers and the band that led me to understanding I needed surgery. Yup. That happened. Strangely enough that tear affected me less than a mild ACL tear that never required surgery.

I’ve torn and had both ACLs reconstructed, with almost a month between each injury and surgery in order for inflammation to decrease and pre-surgery rehab to occur for decreased post-op muscle atrophy. ACL reconstruction is a surgery you have to regain stability. Cartilage tears are also common whenever a knee ligament is torn. The surgery is vital if you want to remain any semblance of stability.
True. You have to look to the future and determine if you want to be able to walk up and down stairs when you’re 50 years old. You may even want to play golf when you reach middle age.

ACL surgery is not an urgent issue and often delayed until swelling subsides. The rehab is the gentle and time-consuming part.

Deshaun Watson played a game for Clemson with a torn ACL and wearing a brace at the end of (I think) the 3015 season. The Tigers won the game. He had surgery following the game. That was the year that their backup, Cole Stout balled out in the bowl game against Oklahoma.
