Hooker/Stroud/Levis/Young - Who will be the best pro?

Essentially every site and pundit seems to have these four as the top QB’s to be taken in the 2023 Draft, with Jefferson from Arky and Jaren Hall from BYU getting some love as well.

Love the arm on Stroud. Not sold on Young in the league because of size. Hooker seems to play perfect football at times. And Levis is entirely inconsistent, albeit playing behind a bad O line.

There’s no obvious pick to me. Hooker and Stroud play in offenses at this level that leave so many questions for scouts. The conscientious from the Kiper, McShay types seem to be that Levis is the guy because of the scheme he plays in, size, arm, toughness and constant comparisons to Josh Allen. He could seriously be the #1 pick when it is all said and done, which will make no sense to many of us.

There’s plenty of football left to be played this season. But for my money, I’d never bet against Hooker considering his history, maturity, the clutch gene, and his intestinal fortitude. Not to mention the fact that he is just simply a winner. I am certainly no GM, owner, or scout, but if I’m drafting a QB, he is my guy.

GBO!

I hope it is Hooker but that is my heart talking. Young has some of that Donovan McNabb/ Russell Wilson type of game where he can extend plays for a long time. He had plays like those multiple times this past Saturday.

Levis will probably be drafted first of the 4, but I think Young will have a longer and more successful NFL career.

Hooker and Stroud will go late or be UFA. They will get a look, but I don't see them being successful at the next level.

Easily Stroud. His body is being preserved while in college. They don’t have to wash his uniforms after the game. They’re clean.

I think Young will be the highest draft pick of the group but NFL scouts have to love Hookers deep throw ability. That's a big plus.

Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson are pretty small. Not to mention Michael Vick, Drew Brees, Doug Flutie, I mean we can keep going...

I agree. It wasn't a knock on BY. It's just the only issue that I could see some GMs having with him.

Hooker and Stroud would have to fall off a cliff before they turn into UFAs.

I believe Levis will get eaten alive in the NFL. Imagine playing against even better athletes in the secondary. To throw INTs in the SEC is one thing but to throw 2 INT to the likes of Youngstown St? He just turns the ball over way too much. And he isnt very mobile.

I don’t think any will be very good in the NFL

Young is too little and relies on extending plays with his legs too much to be successful and his pocket fundamentals are terrible. He also holds onto the ball way too long

CJ also has poor pocket fundamentals and is terrified of contact and therefore won’t have his eyes on the defense because he’ll be consumed by the pass rush and won’t step into throws. He has elite arm talent, but that alone won’t cut it in the NFL

Levis has potential as an NFL QB, but I don’t think he’s a top 10 pick like “experts” are projecting. I do think he has the highest upside besides Stroud though.

Hooker is a great college QB, but this offense sets him up for success better than NFL offenses will. I think Miami would be a good fit for him because they have a lot of speed on the outside and he’s such a good deep ball thrower. Or maybe LA or Minnesota takes him in the 2nd round as a guy to sit behind Stafford or Cousins for another year or two to learn how to dissect defenses. He will need to play for a team that runs a lot of air raid/spread based concepts for him to really have success. Atlanta might even be a good option. Although I don’t think Mariota will be a good guy to teach him how to play QB in the NFL. Out of all the QBs I think he’s the most fundamentally sound in the pocket out of the 4 in question and that’s ultimately where you win big games as a QB in the NFL unless you’re Big Ben. Hooker’s age will likely be a detriment to him because most scouts will think he’s close to his peak already

With the NFL sometimes it’s more important where you get drafted to than it is how good you actually are. For instance I don’t think Patrick Mahomes becomes the player we know today if anyone outside of Andy Reid drafts him. Sometimes you get generational type QBs like Peyton, Eli, Luck, and maybe Burrow and Allen that will succeed regardless of where they’re drafted. Right now I think Quinn Ewers and Drake Maye are the only guys in college football that could fall in the category and maybe Caleb Williams. There’s so much more than just arm talent and athleticism that comes in play when having success in the NFL. Just look at how Fields, Darnold, Mayfield, and Murray have turned out and so many more

In my opinion Sam Hartman is the most NFL ready QB that’s draft elgible right now. Everyone else will be a project
I would bust a nut if Atlanta drafts him. Would buy his jersey immediately.

Some GM is going to trade up for Levis and it will be their death knell. Young is the sure fire success...maybe Stroud close behind.

Of the choices, I believe BY would be the choice.

He's small, but like Tua somebody is going to give him every opportunity as QB1 in the NFL.

Levis certainly gets a shot. I'm not so sure how committed a team will be to him though.

Young is more Tua than anyone else with a stronger arm.
I think Young is a 5’11” Mahomes. He awareness and “pockets presents” is incredible. His ability to side step the rush and create something out of nothing is something that can’t be taught . He keeps his eyes upfield almost all the time . He is carrying Bama this season, their skill guys on the outside are not up to the recent Bama standard.

This exact question was a topic on First Take today. Kiper says Levis will be the best pro out of this year’s QB class. Stephen A and Mad Dog seemed as baffled as we are, but Kiper and his connections continue to double down on Levis. Either Kiper will look like a genius or a GM is going to lose his job.

Bryce Young is Aaron Rodgers Jr. If he can avoid the inflated ego Rodgers has and stay healthy (he’s still awfully little for the NFL) he could do some big things in the league.

Mel Kiper said he would quit the business if Jimmy Clausen ended up being a bust. Well, as you can see, he unfortunately did not follow through on that promise.

Not sold on Levis in the slightest. He has all the physical tools you want, but doesn't have it between the ears. That will be his downfall.

If I had to choose one it would be Young.
He's on a different level with accuracy.
He's been called on to win a lot of games when the going was tough.
I would take a chance on him.

You forgot Richardson who's listed in first rounds in most mock drafts. Richardson and young are gonna be good, stroud is any other Ohio state QB, hookers gonna be a great NFL back up, Levis is one of the worst QB prospects we've seen projected in the first round in decades.

Right now I would have to say Young. He is very mobile and is great at extending plays. Factor in his coolness under pressure and his arm skills, he will have a great career in the NFL. All of the above is true about Hooker as well. I honestly believe the worst Pro out of this group is Bennett. He is average if his team wasn't elite and he won't be able to see over the O line.

I think Levis is likely to stink it up…. Young is good, but his size will hurt him.
Stroud is an OSU qb so there's that….

Despite how we feel about it, Levis is the correct answer. He's got all the tools that scouts look for and the size. If Levis played in a better system, or his OL wasn't garbage, he could put up monster numbers. Listen to the way the analysts talk about him, even the way Peyton talks about him.

Levis isn’t the guy. If you couldn’t score on this Tennessee defense, sorry—you’re not the guy. Dude looked pathetic against us. I don’t even think he’s a serviceable backup. Dude has Peterman vibes.

Could be Bennett. He beat every one of them. Before you say "it's because he had a great defense", and that may be true, he might get drafted to a team with a great defense. Who knows. On the flip side, there have been great college QB's similar to the ones listed that never evolved into anything and flopped in the NFL - Ryan Leaf for one. There have been lots of afterthoughts that have surprised and been capable than expected - Brady, for one... All depends on where they land for the most part.

Everything I have seen from Bryce Young makes him my pick for first QB taken. He is very athletic, cerebral and likeable to boot, even though he played for the evil empire. The Levis hype has me flumoxed as I have seen nothing in his game that awes me in any way. I do think the knee injury that Hendon sustained will adversely affect his draft status and could drop him a round or two. But IMHO he is worlds better than Levis.
