Am I talking bad of Wayne Chism? I guess if my saying he needs to know his role is talking bad about him. But Bruce says on his shows that Wayne needs to have more sense than to take 25 footers whenever he pleases. Plus, he actually wasn't going to offer Childress a scholarship when he was hired here until he saw our lack of inside depth.

He may have recruited Chism's 3pt ability out of high school when he knew he was going to play alongside Major, but now his role is different because he rarely plays with another big man.


Yes, I do have an argument, our lack of inside presence is glaring and Jujuan Smith is admittedly more streaky this year but he's my avatar because of his hustle and the fact that he makes the most of his talent. Although he is a freshman, Wayne needs to acknowledge the fact that he needs to develop himself as a post player and not another guard. I think most would agree that the last thing this team needs is yet another shooter.

i dont understand whats wrong with a post with a decent jump shot. it usually takes some time for freshman big men to develop into big time post players.

Why don't we need another shooter? Jujuan is jeckyll and hyde and Lofton is hurt. Who is our go to shooter when these guys aren't on?

They weren't hoisting up jumpers either. With Lofton hurt we might need one, but we'd need a consistant one too. Plus we've always needed another big man more than a poor shooter with or without Lofton. We need both now.

Plus, if he hit them, we wouldn't be talking about this because I don't mind a big man who can shoot either, but hes 28% from there, I think we can all agree that that is not exactly who we want to be our go to shooter. I mean everyone groans when Childress shoots right? He's only a percentage point lower than Chism. That's pretty telling right there...

I understand your point. But, the way it was originally posted was that we did not want another Wayne Chism. That is incorrect. I would take another in a heartbeat. He is a freshman. Do you know how many freshman are able to completely figure out their role already? Shoot, most freshman arent even good enough to get playing time. He will figure his role out and when he does he is going to be a beast. The difference between the bigs that he faced in high school and the bigs that he faces in the SEC is a HUGE difference. Its not that easy to just get in there and mix it up. He has to adjust. And, like 99% of all true freshman that is taking him a little time.

Chism was a big reason we pretty much shut down Greg Oden in the 2nd half. He's a fine inside presence.

Oden's first half with Crews playing more on him: 16 points, 1 missed shot, 2 offensive rebounds
Oden's second half with Chism playing more on him: 8 points, 3 missed shots, 0 offensive rebounds

That's why I want him to quit thinking about playing on the outside. We're seeing it in the UK game. Chism is playing well inside and he has hit his shots down low. But then he steps out of the paint and tries to dribble and completely misses the bounce, turns it over, and UK hits the 3 in transition. What I was saying is that we don't need another big man who is in love with the 3 ball.

We just need a big man..Look at Florida...they have Noah...North Carolina has Hansborough...Duke has McRoberts...team by team u can look at see success lies with those teams who have a big man who can rebound and play with heart and agressiveness!

Well, that big man won't be on campus next year... unless Brian Williams is a HUGE surprise.

Might have to rely on getting Phillip Jurrick in the 2008 class.

nah, he is actually from Chattanooga Tn...very very good rebounder and great on defense...still working on his shot and some of his offensive footwork..i actually graduated from where he goes to school so i have gone and seem them play several times this yr...he still has basically a 2 yrs till he starts playing anywhere..i think he has potential
