Scotty seems to constantly mope around half slumped, with his head down. He isn't playing good defense and mis-handles the ball frequently. What is going on with this former McDonalds All American? If Hops were to step up, the Vols would be hard to stop.

Well, I have been saying it for a year or so (and have been flamed in the past) but basically Scotty is just a crappy basketball player with a low bball i.q. His saving grace is he long and extremely athletic (hence his high rating out of high school which warps peoples opinions of him). Essentially, Scotty just isnt that good of a player.

I think it mostly mental for Scotty. He might have a low basketball iq, but he definitely gets down on himself real quick. He just has no confidence. I think he can still live up to his rating if he ever gets his head right.

When you start to mope around after one missed shot clearly something is going on his head and his confidence.

I'm not sure if he has a low bball IQ, I just dont think he is assertive enough scoring wise. I've seen him be completely unstoppable at times, and at other times he is nonexistent. He is basically the type of player that exemplifies our team. Unstoppable or terrible, we just never know which one will show up

Look, its simple, he can't dribble and he is a wimp(edited for family message board). I wish he would grow a pair, but I highly doubt it.

It is a good thing Goins stepped up last night or we would have been toast. I hate having to depend on him, but he did his job. I keep hoping Scotty will have a break out game. He can, but will he? I am disappointed that Chism and Williams cannot make a layup if their lives depended on it. But, they made their free throws at the end and won the game for us. Hats off to Prince. He kept us in the game and has made unbelievable progress shooting free throws.

Crappy basketball players dont make game winning shots. I dont think he is a crappy player he is just in a slump that he is trying to come out of he had made a 3-pointer last night so he showed signs that he was coming out of it.

I just don't understand how his ball handling can be so poor. He's not a crappy basketball player by any means, he's proven time and time again he can play, he's just largely inconsistent like the rest of our team. When he can hit a few outside shots that opens it up for him to drive to the hole. When the shots aren't falling and he's forced to consistently drive to the hole to get any action his ballhandling really hurts him. Needs to get his confidence up and always give 100%. He'll really need to step up next year.

I agree about his ball handling. I think this is the reason he "settles" for three's most of the time because he doesnt have confidence in his ball handling.

Scotty made that one acrobatic move to the basket, then from then on he was a liability. Consistency is NOT his strong point! He loses focus so easily, but when he turns that motor on, he's pretty amazing. Alas, that won't get us the brass ring.

ball handling, get stronger--and above all get tougher mentally. It's easy to see: he's SOFT. He's got the potential to be good, but he's got to toughen up.

Exactly. It really is that simple. Hopson just isn't very good.

He was just extremely overrated coming out of HS. I bet UK fans feel much better now that they didn't get him than they did 2 years ago.

I still think the potential is there but whether it will be realized is anyones guess.

I think he is. Like someone else said, I think he's just in a really bad slump right now, and most of it is mental. He'll be alright. I hope he's not reading these message boards.
